"The car is a pleasure to drive thanks to its restored drivetrain. Aesthetically, it is in high-end, show-quality condition."

Description

This is the final model year of the first generation of the legendary Volkswagen Transporter, known as the T1 Pickup. The car was originally sold in Sweden and has mostly been driven in the Stockholm area. In the summer of 2018, it was sold to its current owner in Skåne, who decided to give it a refresh after the summer. This led to the hiring of a close acquaintance and Volkswagen expert.

The vehicle was completely disassembled, and the body was professionally restored and repainted. At the same time, the engine, gearbox, suspension, and more were rebuilt. Every part was painted separately before reassembly, using as many new parts as possible. The owner estimates that more than 600,000 SEK has been invested in the restoration, not including all expenses.

Since its completion, the vehicle has been kept in the owner's collection and has only been used on a few occasions, which is the reason for its sale now.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

The car runs well but requires some experience when shifting gears, as the driver sits at the very front and there is a long linkage to the gearbox.

Everything has been meticulously restored, but since the car has barely been used after the renovation, the gear linkage may require some minor adjustments. The vehicle also needs to go through one final inspection, which the seller will arrange before pickup.

The car will be delivered ready to drive.

  • Interior condition

The interior is in top condition down to every detail, with no faults or remarks. The seat upholstery is in its original design.

The front windows are the opening type, known as Safari windows, which were an optional feature on vehicles used in warmer climates.

  • Exterior condition

The bodywork is outstanding, with a high-quality finish and better fit for details and doors than when the car was new. It has been professionally painted everywhere—inside, outside, and underneath.

Some small details have yet to be installed, including the fuel cap and reverse lights under the rear lamps. The reason is that the owner has not yet found the correct type of screws for these parts. However, all parts are included—see photos.

The car sits on new tires mounted on painted original rims with painted hubcaps, just as it was originally on this model.

  • General condition

Road-ready Volkswagen pickup in show-quality condition—almost too perfect to use!

Ideal as a company mascot, for exhibitions, events, and trade shows, but also great for enjoyable holiday trips. It turns heads wherever it goes.

Facts about the model

History and Development
The Volkswagen Transporter Type 2, T1 (T1 = first generation model) was introduced in 1950 as a light truck and panel van, based on technology from the VW Type 1 (Beetle). With its reliable, air-cooled, rear-mounted boxer engine and simple yet robust construction, it quickly became popular among businesses and craftsmen.

The pickup version was a natural evolution of the T1 bus and is now extremely rare. 1967 marked the final production year of the T1 generation before Volkswagen introduced the T2 model, making the 1967 pickup especially sought after by collectors today.
