Facts about the model

Volvos luxury flagship 760 was launched in 1982 and became the foundation for a completely new model range. Much of the technology was based on the 240 and 260 models, but both the chassis and body, designed by Jan Wilsgaard's design team, were completely new.
When the 760 was introduced, there were two engine options to choose from: the six-cylinder PRV engine and the brand new TD24, a six-cylinder turbo diesel. The latter made the Volvo 760 the fastest diesel-powered passenger car in Europe for a long time. In 1983, it was also available with the B23, a four-cylinder 2.3-liter turbocharged gasoline engine, which was later replaced by the B230ET and, from 1989, the B230FT.
In 1988, the facelifted version was introduced with a modernized front and hood, which made it more distinguishable from the 740 and more similar to its successor, the 960. However, the big news in 1988 was the excellent Multilink rear suspension, which was only available on the sedan model. The 760 was produced until 1990 when it was replaced by the 960.
