Facts about the model
The convertible version of the Type 14 was introduced in 1957, two years after the coupé. Over its production span, the model received a series of minor updates, including larger and more powerful engines, like the one in this auction car, as well as an upgraded interior—though never in leather.
Production continued until 1974, when it was effectively replaced by the Golf-based Scirocco sports coupé—a significant leap from an older design to a modern one.
