"It’s rare to find a 9-3 Viggen Cabriolet, and they are highly sought after. This example is a bit of a double-edged sword—being right-hand drive is a slight drawback, but it also means it comes at roughly half the price of a left-hand drive model. It has just passed a fresh inspection and has benefited from a good amount of recent work."

Description

This car was originally sold by Concept Saab in Birmingham to its first owner, a lady, and comes with a fully stamped service book containing 10 entries—the last in 2010 at 107,154 miles, when a new turbo was fitted.

It was imported to Sweden and registered in 2013 with a mileage of 121,101 miles, and has had just two Swedish owners since. The current owner purchased the car in September 2025 and has since invested significant time and money over the winter addressing wear and maintenance items. Work carried out prior to the January 2026 inspection includes:

Completely new exhaust system from the catalytic converter. The original rear silencer has been replaced, and the removed unit is included in the boot.
Full service: engine oil, filters, and spark plugs
New oil in the cabriolet roof pump system
Two new front ABS rings
New gearbox oil
Two front link arms replaced
Four new shock absorbers fitted
The car passed its latest inspection without any remarks.

It comes with a full set of winter tyres on alloy wheels, two keys, and a comprehensive history file with older receipts and inspection reports. Although it is registered in Sweden as a 204 hp model, VIN verification confirms it is a genuine Viggen with the correct 2.3T engine producing 230 hp (see VIN decoder in the images).

The car runs and drives very well, with strong turbo performance, no warning lights, and a fully functioning convertible roof. The car presents good overall, with only a few minor cosmetic details that could be improved over time. It is not a rusted or damaged car.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

The car starts immediately and runs smoothly with a strong-sounding engine. There are no dashboard warning lights, and it drives well with stable road manners, an easy-shifting gearbox, solid brakes, and plenty of turbo boost when accelerating.

The AC will need a review and likely a regas. The electric mirrors are not working, possibly due to a fuse, and there is a vacuum noise from the heater system—something not uncommon on these models.

Fully inspected and ready for its next owner.

  • Interior condition

Interior is complete and tidy, featuring black leather Viggen seats in good condition. The driver’s seat shows some light wear, with small cracks and a minor hole in the cushion—ideally it would benefit from a leather treatment. The leather gear knob is also worn.

The dashboard is clean and all displays function, although the heater display is pixelated (a common issue) but still readable. Electric windows, roof, and seats all operate as they should, while the mirrors are not working. The glovebox handle is damaged but still functional.

The headliner is clean, with slight sagging at the edges. The cabriolet roof works well, although it has a few scuffs and marks that could be addressed over time (see pictures). Overall, a light reconditioning would further enhance the interior.

  • Exterior condition

Bodywork is straight, with no standout dents, damage, or rust issues. The paintwork is generally presentable, although the left rear arch has been repainted and would benefit from being redone for a better finish. There is a polishing burn mark on the right wing, a small scratch, and some touch-ups and stone chips around the bonnet and a few other areas.

The front windscreen is cracked in the passenger-side corner, and one front fog light is broken—however, a replacement is included. The rear-view mirror shows some fluid marks.

The underbody is clean and undamaged, with only light surface rust in places, nothing noted on inspection reports. There are a few scuffs around the lower front bumper valance and a small area of damage on the underside on the right-hand side, not visible unless you look underneath the car.

  • General condition

A fun car to drive and still, in my opinion, one of the best-looking cabriolets. Mechanically, it runs well, and the cosmetic imperfections mentioned can be addressed over time—nothing urgent is required. It’s the kind of car that turns heads wherever you go.
