Condition
-
Mechanical condition
The engine runs, but after a while the spark plugs foul and the engine stalls. There is a humming noise from the drivetrain, and the brakes vibrate. The car needs an overall inspection of its various systems and auxiliary components.
-
Interior condition
The interior is worn but usable. With some work, time, and care, it can be improved.
-
Exterior condition
Repainted on several occasions, hence the shade variations in the color. The paintwork itself is somewhat worn with touch-ups. There are also some blemishes and rust, so please study the photos carefully. The hardtop doesn’t fit perfectly, and the soft top has seen better days.
-
General condition
A Pagoda in somewhat sad condition. With knowledge, patience, and resources, this Mercedes could become a good purchase. The car has passed inspection and is roadworthy, but an overall review and attention to the previously mentioned issues are recommended.

Facts about the model
The engine was derived from the standard sedan model, and together with the swing rear axle, Mercedes created a sports car that was significantly sportier than the previous SL generation. This was a modern, fast, and high-quality open two-seater.
During the model’s production run between 1963 and 1971, several engine sizes were introduced. Of these, the 230 SL is often regarded as the liveliest. The 230 SL was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 1963, and three years later, a five-speed gearbox became available as an option.
In December that same year, production of the 250 SL began, which today is considered the rarest of the Pagodas. In 1967, a new hardtop body version was introduced as an option, featuring two small rear seats instead of the soft top. The following year, the 250 was replaced by the 280 – which became the most produced version.
In 1971, the last Pagoda rolled out of the factory. A total of 48,912 units were built. Of these, 261 were sold new in Sweden. In the United States, the cars came with all-red taillights, different headlights, air conditioning, and a luggage shelf behind the seats instead of two small child seats.
