The car passed inspection on 2021-08-25 and, according to current regulations, is now inspection-exempt and ready to drive.
What needs to be done on this car is to repair a minor damage at the rear edge of the right front wing, as well as fix some small rust on the right door. The soft top is in poor condition and needs to be replaced. The mechanism for the soft top also requires an overhaul, as its function is uncertain. The owner has been given an estimated cost for this work of around 25,000 SEK.
The car currently has the hardtop installed.

Mechanical condition
The engine starts up nicely and the gearbox shifts satisfactorily. The shifts may be a bit firm, which is very common on older Mercedes cars. New brakes were fitted before the inspection this summer, so the braking is good. There was some noise from the rear suspension during the test drive, but this has now been fixed by a workshop, and the car now runs quietly and smoothly. All instruments and technical functions appear to be working properly. A Bluetooth stereo is installed.
The car has not been inspected by us on a lift, but according to the owner it is in good condition, and it has recently passed inspection. Good tyres, although somewhat aged (2014). The car comes with two keys and fully functioning locks. -
Interior condition
Overall, the interior is in good condition. There is a very small hole at the lower edge of one of the seat backs, which does not detract from the overall impression. Carpets, door panels, and dashboard are all in very good used condition. The door seals have a few minor cracks.

Exterior condition
A polish of the paintwork will significantly improve the overall impression. The damage on the right front wing and the rust by the trim on the right door, as previously described, should be repaired with paintwork. The door trim is available for refitting. Minor, insignificant stone chips are present on the bonnet and in the front windscreen. The light units, other glass surfaces, and bumpers are in good usable condition.

A good car in solid, usable condition that, with a bit of winter attention, has the potential to become truly excellent by summer.

Facts about the model
The 280 SL was equipped with a 2.8-liter inline six-cylinder engine producing around 185 horsepower. The car was known for its elegant design, comfort, and strong performance. It was available with an automatic gearbox as an option and featured the characteristic removable roof that provided a true convertible experience.
By 1975, Mercedes-Benz had also begun integrating more modern technology, making the car both safe and reliable. The 280 SL was popular among both enthusiasts and everyday drivers and became a symbol of luxury and performance in its era.
In total, more than 237,000 units of the R107 model were produced up until 1989, making it one of the most successful sports cars in Mercedes’ history.
