"A very well-maintained PV that runs excellently and shows only a few signs of careful use. It has been driven only during summer for the past 40 years."

Description

The current owner bought the car in this excellent condition from the second owner in 1984. In order to purchase it, he had to promise to take good care of the car and keep it in original condition — something he has now done for more than 40 years. During this time, it has never been driven in winter and has been serviced regularly. A binder containing inspection reports, the owner’s manual, and a sales brochure is included. There are also two complete sets of keys.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

The car runs excellently and everything functions well, maintained and cared for by a knowledgeable and enthusiastic owner. The auxiliary lights are not connected.

  • Interior condition

The original interior is in good condition with only a few minor blemishes. The upholstery on the driver’s seat is worn and should be reupholstered; fabric is included. • Exterior condition

Very nice and well-polished original paint, with only a few stone-chip touch-ups on the hood. The chrome is in fine condition, with just a few small pits on the hood ornament.

  • General condition

An incredibly fine original PV, well worth preserving for the future.

Facts about the model

The Volvo PV 444 was first unveiled at Volvo’s exhibition in the Royal Tennis Hall on September 1, 1944. Many sensed that the Second World War would soon be over, and Volvo wanted to be ready once peace arrived. However, it would take until early 1947 before cars could begin to be delivered. Various obstacles and delays arose—there was, not least, a shortage of raw materials during and after the war. We have also read that Volvo initially sold the car at a loss, as many orders were placed at the introductory price set in 1944, which soon proved to be too low.

In any case, the wheels began turning and the 444 reached the roads. And not just Swedish roads—the new family car also marked the beginning of Volvo’s export efforts, primarily to neighboring countries but eventually to Europe, the USA, and the rest of the world. A total of 196,005 units were produced before its run came to an end. The new Amazon began selling in 1957, and the year after, the 444 was upgraded to the 544 model.
