Description
The first owner of this car, a native of Järbo outside Sandviken, had owned several Lloyds before and when Arabella arrived he fell in love with the beautiful bodywork and could not resist buying one despite his 70 years. However, it didn't get many miles before he passed away and the car ended up with a lady in Hofors.
The next owner from Smedjebacken owned this Lloyd Arabella for 24 years. It started with a smaller Lloyd van that he found in Norway. He joined the Borgward Club and there everyone was talking about Arabella. At the time he didn't know what kind of car it was, but that got him interested and after calling a few owners, he got the opportunity to buy an Arabella that was in Hofors. The car had only driven 2,700 miles but was still rusty and stripped down. The previous owner completely renovated the car. It was rusty on the floor as well as the frame's car body mounts. The upholstery was worn and the foam padding had dried.
He reupholstered the interior in a fabric that closely resembled the original and repainted the car in the closest colour he could find. For its time, the Arabella had a modern design with both a rear panoramic window and fins and was available in both standard and de luxe versions. The engine is of the boxer type and water-cooled.
The car is in a nice and well-restored condition.

The car runs well in terms of the engine and drivetrain. Newly refurbished brakes, including a New Old Stock (NOS) master cylinder, have been installed. A new water pump has been added. An NOS muffler is included

Interior condition
The car has a very nice and well-renovated interior. The rubber mats are stained and dry, see picture.

Lloyden is straight and clean in the body. The chrome is in good condition. The paint has developed spray putty bubbles in several places in the paint, and there are some cracks in the paint on the hood that should be addressed, detailed pictures will follow

Facts about the model
Carl L Borgward var Europas sista privata bilkung. Han började 1916 med tillverkning av kylare till Hansa-Lloyd Werken, följt av trehjuliga motoriserade dragkärror under namnet Goliath. När lokalerna blev för trånga lyckades han köpa in Hansa-Lloyd fabriken som låg mitt emot. Därmed blev han biltillverkare av Hansa, grundat 1905, och Lloyd året därpå. Sammanslagningen mellan dessa hade skett redan 1914.
År 1937 bildade Carl Borgward Lloyd-Goliath Werke med sig själv som ensam ägare.
Den första efterkrigsbilen, Hansa 1500, döptes snart om till Borgward Isabella och blev Tysklands mest framgångsrika 50-tals bil. Lloyd hade presenterat sin 50-tals modell Lloyd 300 1949, som var bland det mest spartanska efterkrigstiden skådat. Borgwards problem kom med efterföljaren Arabella som blev allför dyr att tillverka. Från att ha varit Europas största bilkoncern, och just haft sina bästa försäljningsår stod företaget plötsligt på ruinens brant 1961. Bankernas vägran att ge ett tillfälligt lån försatte hela koncernen i konkurs.

Important to know before placing your bids!
