Facts about the model

The Mercedes compact car was introduced in December 1982 and produced until 1993. It was first offered in Sweden with the 1984 model year. The model generated interest from the start, as this was the first time Mercedes entered the small compact class. The car was offered with both petrol and diesel engines. All versions were called 190 regardless of engine size, unlike the W123 model where different numbers were used based on engine displacement.

The car was equipped with a multi-link rear axle, which was later also introduced in the C and E-class. ABS brakes and seatbelt pre-tensioners contributed to good safety despite the car being smaller than previous models from the manufacturer.

The car was well-received but was considered expensive and cramped relative to its size. Over time, however, it became an appreciated model and laid the foundation for Mercedes-Benz's volume series, the C-class.

A total of 1,879,629 units were produced. In 1987, it cost 130,000 SEK in its base version.
