"Amazingly fresh in every detail. Very nice to drive. No issues."

Description

The Volvo collector’s favorite car. It was in such pristine condition that it was kept in the garage and only polished. The collection also included several P1800s, Amazons, PVs, and 740s. Now being sold by the owner’s estate. The car has never suffered from rust, has never been repaired or repainted. Everything is original. Just as nice on the inside as on the outside, with no signs of wear despite having 199,000 km on the odometer. After 2010, it has only been started occasionally and driven just 200 km. The car was serviced and rust-proofed when it was put away in 2011. It is unclear when the timing belt was last replaced, but on the B23 engine this is not a concern, as these engines are “non-interference,” meaning the engine will simply stop (without damage) if the belt breaks.

The car’s documentation is missing, but the family is currently searching for it.

This 940 was produced in June 1990 and registered in September, meaning it was built in the first production month. All early 940s are of the 1991 model year, as they began being registered after the summer shutdown in 1990. This, combined with the excellent condition, makes this car an especially interesting collector’s item for Volvo enthusiasts.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

Starts immediately and is a joy to drive. No rattles or vibrations. Rolls smoothly, with a responsive engine and stable handling on the road. Recently inspected just a week ago with no issues.

  • Interior condition

In perfect condition with no signs of wear. The color-matched blue dashboard and door panels add a stylish touch.

  • Exterior condition

The body and paint are in excellent condition with no issues. It’s worth mentioning a small touch-up in the middle of the right front door, barely visible (see photo). The car has undergone extensive rust protection treatment underneath and along the edges. Any visible residue (e.g., in the engine bay) can easily be cleaned off with solvent. The black bumpers are slightly streaky in the plastic, and there’s minor scuffing on one front corner (see photo).

  • General condition

One of the finest and freshest 940s we’ve seen in a long time. A very enjoyable collector’s and hobby car, offering high usability, comfort, and safety.

Facts about the model

The Volvo 940 was a major update of the Volvo 740 and was produced from 1990 to 1998 in just over 250,000 units. At the time, it was one of Sweden’s most popular cars. It was introduced a year before (and produced alongside) its successor, the Volvo 850, which was a completely different concept (with front-wheel drive, etc.). Many consider the Volvo 940 to be the last of the “true” Volvos, featuring rear-wheel drive and the nearly indestructible B23 cast-iron engine. Now up for auction is an early model in very appealing collector’s condition.
