"Grundsund Land-Rover that starts and runs well but likely needs some servicing before it can pass inspection."

Description

A Land-Rover in short van body version, imported to Sweden in 1990. It was later converted to left-hand drive. In the late 1990s it was taken to Poland, where it was restored and repainted in the metallic blue body color. At the same time, the engine is said to have been rebuilt, and it received a new interior with cloth seats. The instrument panel is of a newer type. The front end is a mix of newer and older Land-Rover models. The headlights are connected to the lamps on the fenders, while the lamps mounted around the grille can now function as auxiliary lights – however, they are not connected. The current owner has had it since 2022 and has, among other things, had rust repairs done to the frame rails, replaced the clutch slave cylinder with a new one, and fitted a new carburetor. It has not been inspected since 1999 – meaning it is not currently approved for road use. Documentation consists only of a few inspection reports and one receipt; no service book is included. One key is included.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

The engine starts and runs well. The gearbox and four-wheel drive are working. The fan and lights are working. The wiper blades for the windshield wipers are missing, so the windshield wipers have not been tested. The tires have dry rot cracks.

  • Interior condition

The fabric upholstery is intact, the floor of the cabin has been replaced with patterned diamond plate that is roughly cut and therefore has gaps where the ground is visible. The turn signal stalk is missing a cover.

  • Exterior condition

The body has glossy paint but shows a large number of scratches and some corrosion – see photos. The underside appears to be in good condition following the repairs commissioned by the owner.

  • General condition

    Overall
A good forest car as is, or put in a little work and get it through an inspection.

Facts about the model

In April 1948, the Land-Rover was launched at the Amsterdam Motor Show, and production got underway in June of the same year. The idea for the vehicle had come to Rover's chief designer Maurice Wilks at his estate in northern Wales, where a worn-out Willys Jeep was kept. While that vehicle was built for war, the Land-Rover was built for peacetime needs. The idea of placing the steering wheel in the middle, like on a tractor, was something that never went into production. The body was made of aluminum. What is now known as the Series I was succeeded by the Series II in 1958. The Land-Rover now received a longer wheelbase, either 88 or 109 inches, and a new 2,286 cc gasoline engine. From 1961, the Series IIA was built, and in 1969 the headlights were moved out into the fenders. In 1971, production of the Series III began, which among other things featured a fully synchronized gearbox, a new dashboard, and improved heating. The milestone of one million units produced was reached in 1976. In 1983, the Series III was phased out, and its successor was ultimately given the name Defender, which remained in production all the way until January 2016!
