"An everyday Volvo in nice condition for the everyday Volvo enthusiast to get started with."

Description

It was delivered to its first owner by Bilia in Gothenburg in June 1998. The owner drove the car and maintained its service according to schedule for just over 6 years. The next owner did the same, carrying out maintenance and service by the book. The most recent timing belt replacement was done in 2021; the notes do not state at what mileage, but the car has not been driven much since then. The most recent passed inspection was on 2026-04-30.

Facts about the model

The Volvo S70 2.0 (1998) was launched as part of Volvo's extensive renewal program in the late 1990s, as the iconic but boxy 850 model was being phased out. The model was officially introduced for the 1997 model year, and the 1998 version came to represent one of the best-balanced vintages in the car's relatively short life cycle. The letter "S" stood for sedan, and the design marked a clear step away from the previously strictly rectilinear box shapes in favor of softer lines, rounded corners, and a more modern front end, while retaining the car's robust identity and familiar proportions. This specific version was fitted with a 2.0-liter five-cylinder gasoline engine, an engine design that became one of Volvo's foremost hallmarks for its characteristic running qualities and reliability. On the Swedish market and certain Southern European markets (where tax regulations favored smaller engine displacements), the 2.0-liter engine was offered both as a harmonious naturally aspirated unit with 10 valves (126 hp) or 20 valves (143 hp), as well as in livelier low-pressure turbo versions. Safety was, as always, a focus for the Swedish manufacturer, and the 1998 Volvo S70 was equipped with the advanced side impact protection system SIPS (Side Impact Protection System), side airbags, and anti-lock brakes (ABS) as standard. The model quickly became a popular family car and a common sight on Swedish roads, known for its durable build quality and long service life. As early as 2000, the S70 series was replaced by the all-new Volvo S60, making the 1998 model a classic representative of the turning point between Volvo's traditional people's cars and the company's step into the modern premium segment. The S70 was manufactured until 2000 at the factories in Ghent, Belgium, Halifax, Canada, and at the Torslanda plant outside Gothenburg. In 2000, the model was discontinued and replaced by the Volvo S60.
