Description
According to available records, this Ford Lotus Cortina Mk1 was built in July 1966 and first registered in Hertfordshire, England, under the registration number SPU 910D, before being allocated to the Ford Motor Company in Warley, Essex, as one of the so-called Ford management cars.
The car remained in the UK, passing through four owners in Hertfordshire and Yorkshire, before being sold to its fifth owner in Ireland. It remained there until 1999, when it was imported to Sweden and registered on 10 August 1999. Since arriving in Sweden, the car has had four owners, including the current owner.
The car underwent an older renovation, believed to have been carried out approximately 15 years ago, and remains in excellent overall condition.
The current owner, a dedicated classic car enthusiast with extensive knowledge and connections within the Ford community, spent several years searching for a good Lotus Cortina before purchasing this example from an estate sale in 2025.
Already in a great condition when purchased, the car was subsequently converted from right-hand drive to left-hand drive using original Ford parts from the owner's collection.
His original intention was to prepare the Cortina for historic rallying, with the ambition of competing in Sweden's Midnight Sun Rally. However, given the car's condition, originality and rarity, he simply could not bring himself to modify such a well-preserved example for competition use.
Mechanically, the car is in very good condition. Following a coolant leak, the cylinder head was replaced with an equivalent unit. The original cylinder head is included with the sale and will require inspection and resurfacing before being refitted.
A genuine, well-documented Lotus Cortina Mk1 with an interesting history, an older renovation and knowledgeable enthusiast ownership. Importantly, it retains its original road-going specification rather than having been converted into a competition car.
Technical data
Condition
-
Mechanical condition
The car starts directly, although it benefits from a few minutes to warm up properly. The engine runs smoothly and has recently been serviced, including adjustment and tuning of the carburettors. Considerable mechanical work has also been carried out beyond regular servicing, and the engine bay is exceptionally clean and well presented. On the road, the car drives very well, with smooth gear changes and solid, effective brakes. Like many performance engines of this era, the Lotus Twin Cam enjoys being driven at higher revs, where it really comes into its own. Mechanically, the car is in sound condition, with no known issues requiring attention.
The car is fitted with lightweight magnesium alloy wheels, while the original wheels and hubcaps are included in the sale, along with the original cylinder head. The car is exempt from periodic roadworthiness inspections in Sweden and is ready to be driven and enjoyed directly by its next owner. -
Interior condition
A very clean and well-kept original black interior, with all seats presenting nicely. There is a small older repair to the driver's seat bolster and minor damage to the edge of the passenger seat bolster, while the rear seat is in particularly good condition. The headliner, interior panels, door cards, carpets and dashboard are all clean and well preserved. The original gauges and instrumentation are in good condition and working as they should.
-
Exterior condition
Bodywork is straight, with no notable dents, damage or signs of rust. The front left wing has been replaced at some point. The underbody is clean and tidy, with no visible damage or significant rust issues to report, and the car is fitted with an engine skid plate. The paintwork presents very well overall, with just a few minor imperfections, including a small paint chip on the inner edge of the driver's door, a mark on the front left wing near the headlight and some minor paint blistering around the rear fuel filler cap. There are a few additional small marks, but nothing particularly noticeable. The chrome work throughout is clean, bright and well presented.

General condition
You could be waiting a long time to find another Ford Lotus Cortina Mk1 for sale, especially a genuine matching-numbers example. This is a particularly nice, well-presented car in very good condition, ready to be driven and enjoyed by its next owner.
