Condition
-
Mechanical condition
The car starts easily and runs smoothly in the engine and drivetrain. It's a bit unique to drive around with the module on the roof. During test driving, you can feel its presence, but after a while, it feels completely normal. Steering, clutch, gearbox, and brakes all seemed to work well. The car has not been inspected on a lift, but everything looked good regarding vital parts that could be seen. A vehicle with over 30 years on the road may have signs of use underneath. All doors look good underneath.
-
Interior condition
The interior is in good original condition throughout. Seats, rear seat, door panels, and dashboard, as well as the steering wheel and controls, are all at the same level. All functions appear to work well. The engine light is on, has been for years, but no fault has been located during checks at the workshop so far. In classic Saab fashion, the headliner has been attached at the rear. Newer Pioneer stereo.
The Toppola is in good working condition with running water, sink, newer lighting, ladder, stairs, and fire extinguisher. Electricity is installed, but the gas heater has been removed. An awning is included. Vents, windows, and roof windows are in good condition. -
Exterior condition
The original paintwork is in good condition but could be elevated a few notches with a detailing. There are signs of wear with minor stone chips, scratches, and a dent or two. The left rear fender has been repaired, and the plastic wheel arch guard was slightly damaged; a new one has been ordered. Glass, rubber, plastic, and lighting details are in good condition. A small stone chip on the windshield at the bottom on the passenger side.
The Toppola is in working condition and solid. The tailgate for the car is missing. -
General condition
Both the car and the Toppola are in good original condition and are individually interesting from a collector's perspective. Together, they form a nice classic combination that is both practical and attracts justified attention. Simply put, they represent a piece of Swedish motor and camping history.

Facts about the model
The Toppola was a camper attachment, originally designed for the Saab 99 Combi Coupé. The name was a combination of "Top" and the designer's name, Arwo Pullola. The rear hatch was simply removed, and the camper section was then mounted. It was attached with three roof rack bars and a bolt in the trunk. The interior standing height was two meters, and the bed size over the car roof was 170x200 cm. Most units had electricity via a cable/connection, allowing for heating during winter use, for example. A sink and various equipment could be included. The weight difference, minus the rear hatch and with the Toppola, was approximately 115 kg. Apart from the Saab 99, it was available for the 900, 9000, and 9-3, as well as for the Ford Sierra and Scorpio. Approximately 300 units were produced between 1982 and 1996.
