Description
The primary goal for this car was to transform it into a "Standard B" rally car from the 1974-75 era, which is evident in the modifications and work detailed below.
Ported heads
2-port Weber 36 DCD carburetor
Lightened flywheel
7.2 camshaft and lightened lifters
2" sports exhaust system.
Larger radiator from the Saab 99 with an expansion tank from the early Saab 99 and a thermostat-controlled electric fan.
The car therefore has the USA front, as it should, and chrome Bosch 180 rally-knick auxiliary lights. Correct reverse lights and hood straps on the grille as well as a leather strap over the hood.
The wheels are four-bolt 5 ½ inch alloy mounted with hub adapters (original hubs included) and new 165-15 tires. Bilstein DeCarbon shock absorbers front and rear.
The dashboard is special with a tachometer in the center from Sonnet III and period-appropriate wrinkle paint as well as a rally map pocket under the glove compartment. Saab sports steering wheel in the correct model from MotoLita. The seats are Recaro in black leather and the rest of the interior is black.
The battery is placed under the rear seat cushion with a C-Tek contact for convenient charging.
In the rear window, there is an additional period-appropriate brake light and the car also has a stepless interval wiper. The luggage compartment is custom-built with extra compartments on the sides and under the hatch lies a spare wheel (emergency wheel) from the Saab 900 as well as the original jack. A tool bag with some special tools is also included along with various parts.
Inspected forever on 2024-03-06. Registered and ready to drive.
The car is in a patinated used condition with touch-ups and blemishes on the body but mechanically in a great working condition.
For those interested, there is potential for further renovation and improvements. Otherwise, you can simply find a good gravel road and step on the gas. This car will be available for viewing at Bilwebauctions' stand at the Saab Festival.
Technical data
Condition
-
Mechanical condition
No issues to report—just turn the key and drive it home. The car features nice 4-bolt alloy wheels with new tires and includes the original 5-bolt hubs, along with some additional spare parts.
-
Interior condition
The seats are custom-fitted leather Recaro seats from a BMW, providing much more comfort and better positioning. The car also features good carpets, door cards, and panels, along with a good headliner that has a small 6 cm rip. The dashboard is custom-made with a fully functional design, including a tachometer in the center from a Sonnet III and the world's smallest working radio.
-
Exterior condition
The car presents well, but upon closer inspection, you will notice several paint touch-ups and small paint blisters on the bonnet, as well as small dents mainly on the wings, which are highlighted in the pictures. There are no major rust issues overall, and it has a clean underbody. Nothing urgent is needed, and you can keep it as is for many years. The chrome work is clean and bright.
-
General condition
This car is really fun and quick to drive, in top mechanical condition, and looks cool. It's a car to drive and enjoy. While the bodywork can be improved if you choose, it's not necessary.
