Facts about the model
Maserati Indy är en riktig Gran Turismo, i den betydelsen som en sådan sportbil hade på sjuttiotalet, det vill säga 2+2-sitsig som i flesta fall betyder två sköna framsäten och två baksäten i barnstorlek. Indy tillverkades mellan 1969 och 1974. Den har design av Giovanni Michelotti som arbetade för Carrozzeria Vignale och bilen presenterades på Genèvesalongen 1969.
Den är namngiven efter klassikern Indianapolis 500 där Maserati vann både 1939 och 1940. Indyn var tänkt ta vid efter den sportigare Ghibli som ett rymligare och mer praktiskt alternativ. Den var en av de snabbaste bilar som fanns att köpa vid denna tid, toppfarten låg på 250-270 km/tim beroende på motoralternativ. Modellen kom att utvecklas under sin tillverkningstid och de sista 200 exemplaren av den sista 4,9-litersmodellen hade till exempel Citroëns LHM-oljebaserade högtrycksbromssystem.
