"I've said it before, but it's time again, now emphatically. Those slightly improbable cars with a single owner, extremely low mileage, and meticulously maintained, do appear from time to time. They take your breath away, and here we can justifiably use the epithet - unique."

Beschreibung

This vehicle is reportedly manufactured in Ingolstadt in late fall of 1991 and arrived in Sweden the day before Christmas Eve the same year. The sales manager for Bilmo AB in Lund had special ordered the car in Glacier Ice Blue Metallic, which was not standard for the convertible model but was available for other models at Audi. The soft top in blue and interior in Sapphire Blue Kodiak leather. According to Audi, only five examples were made in this color combination. The engine and drivetrain featured the classic Audi five-cylinder injection engine with a five-speed gearbox. The current and only user saw the vehicle in the showroom, fell "in love," and bought it. Since then, it has spent most of its time in his garage, primarily inside a so-called Carcoon tent with fans to keep dust at bay.

The reason for the low mileage is due to other interests, including motorcycling. The car has only been driven in dry conditions with the sun as a companion in the local area, apart from a few round trips to Skåne.
When the timing belt was replaced a number of years ago, unfortunately, the service book was lost at the workshop. The owner himself has serviced the car with oil and filter changes.
The tires and battery have been replaced; otherwise, it is as from the factory. The car comes with two keys and service keys, the instruction manual, and other documents, inspection papers, receipts, and original brochures.

Beurteilung Fahrzeugzustand

  • Zustand technisch:

Due to road conditions and weather, no test drive was conducted. That said, the car started easily and ran smoothly and quietly in the engine. Everything felt tight and as a low-mileage vehicle should. A check of the oil dipstick showed the oil to be yellow and clean. Given the car has been driven little, a thorough inspection is always recommended. The underside was not checked on a lift, but from what could be seen, it appeared to be in very good condition. The barcode label from the manufacturing on the rear axle was still partially intact.

  • Zustand Interieur:

The interior is meticulously maintained in all parts and is in extremely well-preserved original condition. Includes a wind deflector and a Pioneer Stereo from the era.

  • Zustand Exterieur:

The paint, glass, plastic, and soft top are in very fine original condition, without any signs of wear. This also applies to the rims with their newer tires.
The engine and luggage compartments are in a similar condition. At the time of the photo session, we did not have the battery cover in place, but it is available.

  • Zustand gesamt:

This vehicle has now passed the 30-year threshold for tax exemption in Sweden and easily qualifies as a classic. Additionally, considering the somewhat unique combination of a single owner, 15420 km, specification, and original condition, we have here a highly interesting enthusiast and collector's car, from the era when Audi increasingly advanced its positions and took its place among the premium cars.

Fakten zum Modell

Audi's history up to today's date and its position as a prestige brand is varied and rich. It was founded in 1909 by August Horch, who had previously established a company under his own name in 1900 but had to leave it due to disagreements. When it came time to launch a new company with a new name, his own surname was already taken. A partner's son then came up with the suggestion of Audi, which in Latin means to listen or to hear, just like "horch". Audi went on to manufacture cars in Zwickau. In 1932, a conglomerate was formed with the vehicle brands Audi, DKW, Horch, and Wanderer, adopting a symbol with four rings, which is still used today. Back then, the rings and each brand's own logo were integrated. After World War II, Europe and its automotive industry were in ruins, and when Germany was eventually divided into different occupation zones, major parts of Auto-Union were located in the Soviet and later East German zone. Thus, after the war, Auto-Union only involved the production of DKW vehicles in its factory in Ingolstadt, West Germany. The other three brands were put on hold.

In the transition between the 1950s and 1960s, a process began where first Mercedes and then Volkswagen gradually took over the business, happening between 1964 and 1966. The plan was to create a brand to complement the VW range. DKW felt outdated with its two-stroke models, Horch, which had been a luxury car brand but had a somewhat tarnished image since the Nazi era, was not the right choice, and Wanderer was largely forgotten - so the choice fell on Audi.

Under the leadership of Ferdinand Piëch, among others, a journey began in the 1980s to move up into the premium class and compete with prestigious brands such as BMW and Mercedes. The company's motto became "Vorsprung durch Technik" (Advantage through Technology). A milestone was undoubtedly the Audi Quattro concept with all-wheel drive. Here, they quickly gained a sporty image and successes in rallying. When the regular models also received all-wheel drive, it was a boost for the brand. Moreover, they confidently entered the prestige class with their Model A8. However, one model was missing in the lineup, a Cabriolet.

The Audi 80 was manufactured from 1972 to 1995, by which time it was ready for the A4 to take the stage. The first version, called B1, was a praised vehicle, which also became Car of the Year in Europe in 1973. Various upgrades were made over the years. The last version, B4, arrived for the 1992 model year.

A cabriolet version from Audi was finally presented in May 1991. It shared technology with the rest of the model siblings but never received all-wheel drive. The manufacturing of the Cab continued well after the Audi 80 had ceased and become the Audi A4, actually until the 2000 model year. In the last years, the Cab version was built by Karmann. A total of 71,350 units of the Audi 80 Cabriolet were produced.
