Beschreibung
This bus (or BUS as it says on the rear hatch) later became known as the Caravelle or Transporter for the cargo model. It was registered in November 1981 and was owned by the company Emmaboda Granite AB in Småland for almost 10 years before it was traded in and sold to a private individual in Emmaboda, who owned it for 20 years until 2010. Afterward, it has been a collector's car in Nybro and with the current owner in Uddevalla.
The car is unusually well-preserved. Previously repainted in the original color on the sides below the waistline. Original paint on the top and on the rear hatch and front. No visible damage or rust attacks, and it's in great condition underneath as well. Untouched original interior, with rubber mats and faux leather upholstery in good condition without any significant issues. It gives a well-maintained overall impression that matches the mileage of 170 000 kilometers (the odometer resets at 100 000 kilometers, which is why it shows 70 000 kilometers now).
The car is available for viewing at Fahlkes VW workshop in Åmål. For questions or test drives, please call: 004676102206.

Beurteilung Fahrzeugzustand
-
Zustand technisch
The car starts easily and runs very smooth. Good engine power, smooth gear shifts, and no vibrations or unusual noises. The car has been thoroughly inspected and serviced in the spring of 2022. It was then inspected at the vehicle inspection station at 173 000 kilometers. Afterward, the car has only been driven for a little over 1000 kilometers during the summer. Service and inspection documents are included (see pictures).
It comes equipped with winter tires without studs, with good tread on the original rims. There is no additional set of wheels included. -
Zustand Interieur
It's evident that the car has only traveled 170 000 kilometers. There are only traces of normal use, and nothing that needs attention. The headliner and door panels are in excellent condition. However, there are some holes from previous equipment on the dashboard, and the speakers are a bit loose in the doors. The plastic button for folding the small part of the rear center seat is missing, but the arm is still there, so it functions anyway. The original carpet in the trunk is lightly soiled.

Zustand Exterieur
Straight and clean body without any noticeable repairs or touch-ups. Lovely early 1980s color. The rear bumper has been removed as a new one has been ordered (which had not arrived at the time of the photos). A galvanized towbar is attached to the rear bumper mounts, and the bumper will be mounted over it before delivery.

Zustand gesamt
A pleasant and practical collector's car in unusually good condition for the model.

Fakten zum Modell
T3 continues the concept of having an air-cooled boxer engine at the rear and the driver's seat up front, providing spacious interior space. The square-shaped buses have a distinctive early 80s design, and the most significant change, aside from the appearance, was the focus on crash safety. Volkswagen put a lot of effort into making the car crash-resistant, with a body so rigid that it can withstand a collision at 50 km/h while keeping the driver's compartment intact. It even achieved better crash safety than a Swedish boxy car, the Volvo 760, which was introduced around the same time (feel free to search for "Volkswagen T3 unfallsicherheit" if you want to learn more).
The T3 bus was so well-engineered and robust in its construction that Porsche built a version in the mid-1980s called the R32, featuring the same engine (3.6 liters and 231 hp), gearbox, and brakes as the Porsche 911 Carrera. Today, these T3 buses cost more than their equivalent 911s from the same era. The fact that this is the last air-cooled Volks
