"A Saab that has been spared the effects of salty winter roads, having been stored away during the colder months of the year."

Beschreibung

This Saab has remained within the same family since new. In 1978, it was passed on to its most recent family owner. Although there is limited documented history, it is clear that the car has been cared for with great attention throughout its life. Remarkably, it has had only three drivers since new—an uncommon distinction that adds to its appeal.

According to the owner, the car has been used exclusively during the summer months and stored in a garage every winter, helping to preserve it in exceptionally fine condition. No obvious signs of previous welding repairs were found, and it has largely escaped the rust issues that commonly affect the model. During our inspection, the undersides of the doors—an area particularly prone to corrosion on the Saab 99—were carefully checked, and no significant rust was observed. The body appears solid overall, although some panels display slight variations in paint shade, suggesting that parts of the car may have been repainted at some point.

Perhaps most impressive is the car's high degree of originality. From the interior details to the body and mechanical components, it reflects careful ownership and a genuine commitment to preserving the car much as it left the factory. The result is a beautifully preserved example that offers an authentic impression of how the Saab 99 looked and felt when new.

Beurteilung Fahrzeugzustand

  • Zustand technisch

Starts easily and performs well, with the engine and drivetrain operating as they should. The brakes provide strong, even stopping power, and the car feels stable, comfortable, and composed on the road.

  • Zustand Interieur

The interior is in good driver-quality condition, consistent with the car's age and mileage. The dashboard is in excellent, crack-free condition, while the headliner fabric has been secured in place with upholstery pins (see photos).

  • Zustand Exterieur

The car retains much of its original paintwork, although there are slight variations in shade on some panels. There are also a few minor paint touch-ups (see photos). The underside presents well, and the car has remained largely free from rust.

  • Zustand gesamt

It is becoming increasingly difficult to find a Saab 99 in this level of condition. When an example like this comes along, it is an opportunity not to be missed.

Fakten zum Modell

The "broad-shouldered Swede," the Saab 99, entered production for the 1969 model year. It was initially introduced as a two-door, front-wheel-drive car powered by an 80-horsepower engine. The following year, a four-door version was added, along with a fuel-injected engine producing 87 horsepower. From an early stage, the model received a series of improvements and upgrades, including more powerful engines, revised body designs, and numerous safety innovations that were widely praised.

For the 1974 model year, the standard Saab 99 was equipped with a 2.0-litre engine producing 95 horsepower. New high-back front seats with integrated headrests were introduced, featuring openings for optional cushions. Other updates included a redesigned steering wheel, improved heating and ventilation, and a padded rear-seat safety rail incorporating four defroster outlets, as the rear window was not yet electrically heated. New door locks and inertia-reel seat belts were also introduced for 1974.

Saab enjoyed strong sales in Sweden that year, reaching 41,700 cars sold. In total, 588,643 examples of the Saab 99 were produced. More powerful variants, including the EMS and LE, were later added to the range, with the EMS in particular being marketed as a sporty family car featuring a number of performance-oriented enhancements. Then, in 1976, Saab unveiled the development that would change the brand forever: plans for a production turbocharged engine.
