The car had a varied ownership history during its first couple of decades, but after the current owner received it as a graduation gift in 1996 and became the registered owner in February 1997, she has kept it for 30 years. It has provided plenty of enjoyment and has been used both as a daily driver and a leisure car. Over the past 10 years, it has been off the road, and the most recent approved inspection was carried out on August 31, 2013.

Zustand technisch
The engine starts when supplied with proper power and sounds healthy after a short while (see video). The cable between the ignition switch and the starter motor is damaged or loose, and a vacuum hose is also missing.
The car has had its engine replaced a couple of times over the years and, according to the owner, is now on its third unit. Both the parking brake and the service brakes engage properly and do not stick when the car is moved during the photoshoot. -
Zustand Interieur
Original interior in black vinyl, with covers on the rear seat and headrests. The interior is in condition consistent with the mileage—the carpet is good, as are the door panels, though the side pockets are slightly sagging. The car stereo is missing its faceplate and is therefore not functional.

Zustand Exterieur
Originally, it was likely finished in Saturn Yellow (L13M), which can still be seen in a few places upon closer inspection. It was later repainted black by a previous owner, and there has been welding work done to the body and floor pan. Ahead of the graduation celebration in 1996, it was returned to yellow.
Today, the paint shows cracks, bubbling, and damage in known areas. The soft top is intact and clean, with some separation at the seam along the lower edge of the rear window. It sits on nice big wheels with older tires. -

Overall impression and tips?
The paint has its minor flaws, and the electrical system should be an easy fix. Sort out the wiring, polish the paint and chrome, and carry out an oil and brake service. Then bring out a set of colorful flower decals—apply them where needed to cover imperfections.
The floor pan looks solid, the soft top is intact and weather-tight, and under current regulations, the next inspection will be the last.

Fakten zum Modell
The most significant change was the new front suspension with MacPherson struts, providing a smoother ride and a larger front trunk. It also received an updated rear setup with IRS (Independent Rear Suspension). The “L” indicated a higher level of equipment, including features such as a padded dashboard and additional lighting, while the “S” stood for the larger 1.6-liter engine producing 50 hp.
Unlike its successor, the 1303, the 1302 retained the classic flat windshield and the characteristic steel dashboard. Like Volkswagen’s other convertibles, it was built by coachbuilder Karmann in Osnabrück. As early as 1973, the 1302 was replaced by the 1303 model—also known as the Super Beetle—which featured a curved windshield and a more modern plastic dashboard to meet new U.S. safety requirements.
Today, many consider the 1302 LS Cabriolet to be an appealing blend of classic Type 1 aesthetics and a more modern chassis.

General information about the condition of the vehicles .
- At this auction, many vehicles have been included in car collections and have been stored (mothballed) for a long time. For this reason, they are described from a collector's perspective and may need technical reviews and maintenance service - oil, battery replacement, new tires, brake review, etc. - before they can be used. .
- During the auction days information about a vehicle may be updated up to the day before the auction ends. When you bid at the end of the auction period - and also if you have made an earlier bid - we therefore ask you to read the descriptions carefully, in case something has been changed due to new information.
Important to know before placing your bids!
- Once you have called in an item and the reservation price is reached we want you to deposit the entire purchase amount into our client funds account before retrieval can take place.
- When you need to retrieve a called in object we want you to examine it carefully. If you consider that the item does not match our description you do not need to complete the purchase. In this case the deposited purchase sum and the entry fee are refunded.
- If you do not examine the item on the spot the call charge will be debited, but you do not have to complete the deal.
- If you make the entire purchase exclusively at a distance you have 14 days to cancel, but must return the item at your own expense.
- Your shipping costs and other costs are not reimbursed when the right of withdrawal is exercised. Swedish court applies.
- For items that have not been collected within 14 days storage costs may be charged.
