Beschreibung
When the first owner passed away, the car was inherited by his brother. That brother was the father of the current owner, who in turn acquired the car as an inheritance in 2008. In this way, the car has changed hands among family members over the years. It is worth noting that the car was officially registered under different family trusts until 2008. Formally, the car has had five registered owners, but only three actual users.
The current owner restored the car upon acquiring it, including a new paint job, a new headliner, and continuous maintenance with numerous repairs. Among other things, all hydraulic suspension spheres have been refurbished by a specialist. In 2018, a new headliner was installed, and when the roof was removed for this purpose, no rust damage was found in the roof frame—a common issue with this model. See separate images for reference.
The car was last inspected by the vehicle inspection authority in 2018 and is, under current regulations, exempt from both taxation and periodic inspections. The current odometer reading is 48,079 km. While the total mileage is unknown, the odometer reading has been consistent with inspection records from 1990 onward. It is likely that the odometer has rolled over once, meaning the true mileage is closer to 148,000 km. The car comes with an owner's manual, spare wheel, jack, and warning triangle.
Additionally, the elegant H gearbox with hydraulic control requires a learning period for drivers unfamiliar with it. Once mastered, it allows for very smooth and stylish driving.
This is a remote auction. The images and details regarding the car’s technical condition have been provided by the owner. BWA has not inspected the car in person.
Teknische Daten
Beurteilung Fahrzeugzustand
-
Zustand technisch
The engine starts without any issues, and all hydraulic systems are functioning properly. The hydraulic suspension spheres have been refurbished to ensure optimal performance.
The car is equipped with air conditioning, which is complete but requires an inspection and a refrigerant refill.
The H gearbox operates and shifts well, though there is a slight grinding noise when engaging third gear. The current owner does not consider this to be a major issue. -
Zustand Interieur
The upholstery has been original since 1970, except for the headliner, which was replaced in 2018. There is some wear on the seats, but thanks to a protective seat cover that was installed in 1970 and removed in 2009, the interior has remained in unusually good condition. See the images for reference.
-
Zustand Exterieur
The car was repainted in 2009. The paintwork appears to have held up well, with only minor imperfections, but nothing significant. See images for details.
According to accompanying receipts, some welding work has been carried out underneath the chassis and at the tow hitch mounting points. The latest inspection report from 2018 showed no rust-related remarks. -
Zustand gesamt
A good overall impression with a solid ownership history.

Fakten zum Modell
This car is equipped with a unique type of gearbox known as the H gearbox—a kind of semi-automatic transmission. The gear selector is positioned in front of the steering wheel. Moving the lever from neutral to the left activated the starter motor. Once the engine started, the lever was pulled back to neutral. Engaging first gear was as simple as pushing the lever forward. To shift up to second gear, the lever was pulled back toward the steering wheel. Third and fourth gears were positioned to the right. To engage reverse, the lever was moved past neutral into first gear and then shifted to the right.
For modern drivers accustomed to simply pressing a button while the automatic transmission does the rest, this system may seem unnecessarily complex and intricate. However, when it was introduced, this gearbox represented cutting-edge French engineering at its finest.
Enthusiasm at Its Launch:
When the Citroën DS (pronounced Deésse, meaning "goddess" in French) debuted at the Paris Motor Show in 1955, it took the automotive world by storm—no one had ever seen anything like it. The model remained in production for 20 years, with a total of 1,456,115 units built between 1955 and 1975. In Sweden, approximately 1,300 examples remain registered today.
