Beschreibung
The speedometer is in MPH, and the odometer shows just over 251,000 miles, or about 40,000 kilometers—which confuses both the owner and others. With that mileage, the rest of the car would not look as it does, so this reading seems unlikely. Unfortunately, the previous owner, the Volvo executive, who could have shed some light on the mystery, is no longer alive.
The most recent and final approved inspection was carried out on 2019-06-05.
Teknische Daten
Beurteilung Fahrzeugzustand
-
Zustand technisch
When the car was sold, the seller, who was also the Volvo executive, included a virtually new B20E test engine with the correct USA specs. The current owner drove the original engine for a couple of years but then installed the new one simply for the fun of having a fresh engine. Today, the new engine has just over 1,000 kilometers on it. The original engine is still in its delivery crate in the garage and, of course, comes with the car.
-
Zustand Interieur
The original carpets in the interior were brown and a bit worn, so the current owner decided that a newly sewn blue interior would complement the car’s blue metallic exterior and black leather seats better. The car has a good headliner and door panels.
The original steering wheel is in excellent, well-preserved condition and is included with the car. The air conditioning system has been removed by the current owner, but all parts are included. -
Zustand Exterieur
Beautiful paint in its original color, applied to the car at the Torslanda factory in one of their paint shops. It's likely that the original paint was slightly faded from the California sun.
The car is equipped with nice original ATS wheels fitted with fresh Bridgestone tires. The chrome details on the trim and bumpers are in great condition. -
Zustand gesamt
It’s great that the car has been preserved in its USA-specification. When cars are re-imported, it’s common for the side lights specific to the U.S. market and the larger, higher bumpers to be removed and replaced.
This car remains a vintage Volvo export model in a lovely original condition, with even an almost new engine in the correct export version.

Fakten zum Modell
The Volvo 1800 ES featured a 2.0-liter B20 engine with fuel injection (B20E/B20F in the USA), delivering approximately 125 hp in the U.S. version, which was adapted to meet stricter emission standards.
One of its most distinctive features was the large full-glass rear hatch, which in Sweden, and especially in Gothenburg, earned it the nickname "Fiskbilen" (the Fish Car).
Despite its elegant design and positive reception, its production was short-lived. This was due to stricter safety and emission regulations in the USA as well as high manufacturing costs. Only about 8,077 units were produced, with a large portion of them being exported to the U.S. market.
