The car had already been renovated and repainted when he bought it, most likely during the late 1980s. Like many W116s of this era, it had suffered from rust issues over the years. During the repaint, a slightly different shade of gold was used, which can be seen when compared with areas of original paint around the door and window frames.
The car runs and drives well, with a smooth-running engine and automatic gearbox. The interior is clean overall, with some damage to the driver’s seat. Externally, the car presents well, although paint flaws and some rust blistering can be found around the bodywork. It is not a show car, but a good, usable classic that can be enjoyed as it is and improved over time.

Zustand technisch
The car starts easily and the engine runs well. On a cold start, the rubber belts squeak for a couple of seconds before becoming quiet, so replacing the belts is recommended and should be a straightforward job. The left front brake also makes a rubbing sound, possibly from the caliper or brake pad, and should be checked.
The engine bay would benefit from a clean and tidy-up, but otherwise the car runs and drives well. It is inspection exempt. -
Zustand Interieur
Classic 1970s brown interior presenting in good overall condition. The seats are well kept apart from some damage to the driver’s seat bolster. The door panels, carpets and headliner are also in good condition.
The dashboard and instrumentation work as they should, with good oil pressure showing while driving, and the electric sunroof is fully operational. A thorough clean and detailing would really lift the interior. -
Zustand Exterieur
A presentable car overall, but on closer inspection there are some micro-blisters and rust blisters in the paintwork from older repairs. There is also a small approximately 15 cm dent on the right side of the roof and a small section of chrome side trim missing from the rear door. The remaining chrome work is bright and presents well.
The paint finish has some blemishes and would benefit from a good polish. The underbody looks solid overall with evidence of some older repairs. Importantly, this is not a heavily rusted car, but an older usable classic showing signs of previous work and age. -
Zustand gesamt
A very usable summer classic. It is never going to be a show car, but it offers affordable W116 ownership and can be enjoyed as it is while being improved over time.

- At this auction, many vehicles have been included in car collections and have been stored (mothballed) for a long time. For this reason, they are described from a collector's perspective and may need technical reviews and maintenance service - oil, battery replacement, new tires, brake review, etc. - before they can be used. .
- During the auction days information about a vehicle may be updated up to the day before the auction ends. When you bid at the end of the auction period - and also if you have made an earlier bid - we therefore ask you to read the descriptions carefully, in case something has been changed due to new information.
Important to know before placing your bids!
- Once you have called in an item and the reservation price is reached we want you to deposit the entire purchase amount into our client funds account before retrieval can take place.
- When you need to retrieve a called in object we want you to examine it carefully. If you consider that the item does not match our description you do not need to complete the purchase. In this case the deposited purchase sum and the entry fee are refunded.
- If you do not examine the item on the spot the call charge will be debited, but you do not have to complete the deal.
- If you make the entire purchase exclusively at a distance you have 14 days to cancel, but must return the item at your own expense.
- Your shipping costs and other costs are not reimbursed when the right of withdrawal is exercised. Swedish court applies.
- For items that have not been collected within 14 days storage costs may be charged.
