Volkswagen Karmann-Ghia Coupé 1500 — 1969

Since this Volkswagen Karmann-Ghia was imported from Arizona to Sweden, it has undergone an uncompromising nut and bolt renovation – and is today in absolute top condition with our highest rating ever! 
The car was completed in February 2015 and has since been cautiously driven 9000km summer miles. During the renovation, the owner did use many original parts.
Paint work and body work was completed to a very high standard, as well as the upholstery that is sewn in the finest Elmo leather and original fabric from Germany. The car is extremely carefully supplemented with, among other things, the Philips turntable and radio, as well as the unusual steering wheel. The car also includes US bumpers and two sets of rims – original and Empi. 
The 1500 engine is not the original but has a manufacturing number of 5552110 – which means it is built between 1968 and 1969. The engine is refurbished with new bearings, crankshaft, cylinders, pistons and valves. The clutch is also new, while the carburetors and cylinder head are refurbished. The crankshaft, pistons, flywheel and clutch are all balanced and engine goes incredibly well and gives a little more horsepower...

Byggd av Karmann på Volkswagens bottenplatta med kaross ritad av italienska designhuset Ghia. Linjesköna Karmann-Ghia presenterades på Frankfurtsalongen 1955 och när serieproduktionen kom i gång året efter dröjde det inte länge förrän man började rita på cabrioletversionen som kom 1957. 
Så värst mycket sportbil var inte Karmann-Ghia med all mekanik hämtad från Typ 1. 1961 gjordes fronten om med större grillar och strålkastarna högre upp. Samtidigt fick den större bakljus och hjulhus. 
1970 gjordes lamporna bak än större och 1972 kom de stora stötfångarna som ersättare till de smäckra originalen. 1974 lades modellen ner tillförmån för nya Golf-baserade Scirocco.

Denna bil köptes 2012 i Arizona och kom till Sverige 2013 och var fult körbar och i fint skick men solblekt. Arizona har världens torraste klimat så bilarna är helt rostfria både på in- och utsidan.

I Arizona såldes bilen ny våren 1969 och har bara haft två ägare som vårdat den väl. Bilen hade gått cirka 90.000 miles (16.000mil) när den kom till Sverige. Motorn var bytt till likandan som original någon gång på åttiotalet. Bilen hade inga skador men smårepor och solblekt varför ägaren bestämde sig för att lacka om den, vilket växte till helrenovering.
