Facts about the model
Over the years, numerous variants and updates were made. When the new 740 model was introduced in 1984, many thought the "old" 240 model had reached the end of its line, but Volvo shifted gears and continued to develop the 240.
Various engines were added over the years, including gasoline, diesel, and turbocharged versions. It was produced in two, four, and five-door body styles. There were different equipment variants, from sportier models to more luxurious ones, but perhaps the most genuine were the DL/GL models, a staple of the Swedish home.
Initially, the GL model was a bit more upscale but eventually became the entry-level model. From 1981, it was equipped with the B23A engine, producing 112 hp.
There were faster cars on the market, but few could match the combination of simplicity, durability, quality, and safety of the Volvo 240, a down-to-earth family car. In total, over 2.8 million Volvo 240s were built between 1974 and 1993, and now this people’s car and 50-year-old has become a collectible.
