Mercedes-Benz 200 W123 — 1983

Mercedes 200 W123 is an iconic model, often regarded as one of the most durable cars ever built, with many examples used as taxis covering well over 500,000 km. With just 212,279 km on the clock, this one could almost be considered just run in! Better still, it remains in extremely good condition

"Owned by a Mercedes enthusiast, this W123 has always been kept in good running condition and stored in a warm garage. It is a very nice driver’s car, inspected until 2028-04-30 and ready to be enjoyed straight away."

Description

This car was sold new to its first owner in Helsingborg by Philipson Mercedes-Benz. After four years, the car was traded back to the Mercedes dealership, where one of the mechanics bought it and went on to own it for an impressive 18 years. It was then sold to another local owner, who kept the car for a further nine years. After another two owners, the current owner purchased the car in 2021.

The car received additional rust-protection treatment from new and was treated again with Dinitrol a few years ago. Thanks to this protection and careful long-term ownership, the car remains exceptionally solid, with no significant rust issues. The interior has also survived remarkably well and still looks and feels extremely fresh, particularly the seats.

Nice factory equipment includes an electric sunroof, and the car is also fitted with a towbar.

Mechanically, it runs and drives extremely well, with no unusual engine noises and a very solid overall feel. Unfortunately, the original service history was lost by a previous owner. However, older online inspection records support the mileage progression, which currently stands at 212,279 km.

Having seen and inspected many W123s over the years, this is certainly one of the better examples I have come across for a long time.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

Starts instantly and runs beautifully, with a smooth, stable idle and no unwanted engine noises. The tough 2.0-litre engine has a reputation for being almost bulletproof.

On the road it feels just as a good W123 should – solid, stable and comfortable, with a smooth gearbox and strong brakes. An oil service was completed this year and it has recently passed inspection, valid until 2028-04-30. It is also now road-tax exempt.

Finished off with a smart set of wheels, original-style hubcaps and good tyres. Turn the key and enjoy – this W123 is ready to go.

  • Interior condition

The interior is in exceptionally well-preserved condition. Both front and rear seats show virtually no damage and hardly any signs of wear, matched by equally clean door cards, panels, carpets and headliner.

The dashboard and trim are also in excellent condition, with the original gauges and instruments working as they should, complemented by a retro-style Blaupunkt Milano USB radio. The electric sunroof, windows and mirrors all operate correctly.

Step inside and it genuinely feels like sitting in a much newer car.

  • Exterior condition

Super presentable and clearly very well cared for, with straight bodywork, no damage and virtually no visible signs of rust – undoubtedly helped by the car’s early rust-protection treatments.

The only point to note is an older painted rust blister on the rear passenger-side inner door frame – see pictures. The underbody is equally impressive, appearing clean, tidy and free from obvious damage.

The paintwork remains bright and clean with a very nice finish, complemented by equally impressive, bright chrome all around. Overall, a remarkably solid and well-preserved car.

  • General condition

This is probably one of the best examples I have seen for many years, particularly when it comes to the remarkably well-preserved bodywork and interior. Solid, honest and clearly cared for, it is ready to be driven and enjoyed straight away by its next owner.
