"Quirky creation with considerable thought."

Description

The car's creator, a retired medical technician who became an artist, car builder and metal sculptor with several amusing projects to his credit, intended it to be seen as a prototype, a project to be refined. He received a Sierra as payment for a job, purchased another Sierra as a donor car and built on from there. Here, as a PDF, is a feature about the car in Teknikens Värld 2010 signed by Peo Källström. It tells the history in a fine manner.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

The engine starts easily when the battery is charged. The V6 sounds good, but we only had it running for a short while as the battery was discharged. We therefore did not carry out a test drive.

At some point, a radiator hose has leaked, which explains the rust-coloured stains in the engine bay. After the documentation was completed, the owner drove the car, but the engine has difficulty revving. There appears to be an issue with the fuel injection system.

  • Interior condition

Sparse, to say the least, with ample legroom. In the boot among fuel pumps, filters and batteries there is still room for a couple of soft bags.

  • Exterior condition

The bodywork has some scuffs and a crack after it has been moved around in the premises where it has been stored for a few years. Otherwise, it shines nicely in red with its distinctive design, the wheels are undamaged and the 10-year-old tyres from 2016 have not covered many kilometers.

  • General condition

With the history from the creator in hand and with additional documentation and editorial content, the car gains an entirely different significance than a small forgotten toy.

Facts about the model

The Ford Cologne V6 is one of Ford's most enduring and influential engine families ever. The engine was manufactured continuously from 1962 to 2011 at Ford's engine plant in Cologne, Germany. It began as a simple, compact engine for European passenger cars but grew over time into a global workhorse that powered everything from sports cars to heavy four-wheel-drive pick-ups and SUVs in the USA. The Cologne engine is characterized by a cast-iron block with a 60-degree cylinder angle. It was originally developed from Ford's Taunus V4 engine (by simply adding two cylinders), which means they share bolt patterns and engine mounts. The vast majority of engines in the series were built as pushrod engines (OHV) with a centrally located camshaft, but the family concluded with advanced both SOHC and DOHC designs.
