"A fine example of the conclusion of M.G.'s T-series. Fine in bodywork, interior and details. Like the other vehicles in the seller's collection, this is a high-quality car, but it has not been driven for several years, which is why an inspection is recommended."

Description

This car was registered for traffic on 7 October 1983. At present, we have no reliable information beyond the fact that the car has undergone thorough and extensive restoration, of which there can be no doubt. The current owner, a well-known figure in the automotive history hobby for many years, acquired the car in July 2006, where it has been part of his extensive private collection. The seller and Bilwebauctions chose, for logistical reasons, to leave the vehicle in the collection during inspection and photography.

Instruction book and literature included.

Owner's comment

Our father has always been an enthusiastic motoring historian and over the years many fine and well-maintained vehicles have passed through the collection. He has always maintained, serviced and kept them in excellent and roadworthy condition. It has been a lifestyle and a multitude of friends, vehicles and memories he and we as a family carry with us. Now it is time for the next chapter for us and the vehicles in the collection.

Facts about the model

MG Morris Garages was founded by W.R. Morris. Initially he sold bicycles and then cars. From 1913 he manufactured cars under his own name, Morris Motor Company. At the same time he retained Morris Garages as a separate company and from 1924 he sold Morris cars with tuned engines and special bodywork as MG cars.

During the 1930s a number of sports versions were made, including the MG Midget T-type. These T-type cars TA, TB, TC, TD and TF were manufactured between 1936 and 1955 with certain interruptions during the Second World War. The last model in that era was the TF 1953–1955. It was the last model with external fenders but now it had the headlamps integrated into the fenders and a slightly inclined grille that showed which way was forward on the G. Still, however, the engine was 1250 cc and 58 hp. The final model year was also offered in the 1500 cc version with 63 hp. A total of 9,602 TF cars were built, of which 3,400 examples had the 1500 engine. Over 60% of the TF cars were exported to the USA.

Already in 1935 W.R. Morris had sold MG to the Nuffield Group. In 1968 MG became part of British Leyland and 1980 it was over. Though the marque lived on with Rover and later BMW but 2005 it was over once again. Now, however, Nanjing Automobile Group has dusted off the name MG once more. But that is quite another story.
