"Many hours of work have gone into this. An exceptionally well-built car that remains original in some areas, while in other details the owner has pushed the boundaries slightly—without ever crossing the line. In my opinion, an absolute top-tier restoration."

Description

This Oval Beetle was purchased by the current owner as a restoration project in September 2006. A thorough and well-executed restoration has been carried out, including rust repairs to both the floor pan and body. The interior and headliner have been newly upholstered in fabric similar to the original.

A NOS engine has been installed—an industrial engine sourced new from a military storage facility, where it had been kept for over 50 years. The entire car has been painted in parts in the beautiful Porsche color Stone Grey.

The restoration has been ongoing from the time of purchase until the car was inspected and approved in September 2021. Since its completion, the car has been showcased in numerous settings and has consistently been met with standing ovations.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

The car is in excellent mechanical condition, with virtually everything refurbished using new original parts. It is equipped with newly rebuilt Porsche 356 brakes all around. The front suspension is lowered with adjustable settings (original parts included). The gearbox is from 1965 and therefore features a synchronized first gear.

The heater boxes are not installed, which is of little significance as the car has only been driven during summer. No electronic ignition, but converted to 12V.

  • Interior condition

Professionally tailored interior, including upholstery, headliner, and door panels. The carpet is made to original specification, professionally bound and installed by the owner – very well executed.

A Porsche steering wheel is fitted.

  • Exterior condition

A great deal of work has gone into the car’s paintwork. As previously mentioned, it has been painted in sections. The lights, chrome details, and glass are all in top condition. An Abarth exhaust system is fitted, giving it a nicely throaty sound.

The wheels are painted in the VW color Azure Blue. New tires are fitted, including the spare wheel.

  • General condition

An exceptionally well-executed restoration. The car ???? just the right amount of attitude without losing its original character. The owner has shown great sensitivity and has truly achieved an excellent aesthetic balance in this car.

The Volkswagen Type 1 was originally designed in the 1930s by Austrian engineer Ferdinand Porsche. The car was intended to be a “people’s car” (Volkswagen in German) that would be affordable, reliable, and easy to maintain.

Production of the VW Type 1 began in 1938, but due to World War II, it wasn’t until after the war that production truly gained momentum.

Production of the VW Beetle continued until 2003, making it one of the most produced cars of all time.

The 1956 VW Type 1 represents an important part of automotive history and continues to fascinate enthusiasts around the world. It is cherished for its unique design and reliability.
