"Light, moderately aged sporty rally derivatives with delightful intake sounds from hungry carburetors on a smaller engine hold a special place in the heart of a petrolhead."

Description

It was sold new in Sweden in 1967 and probably led a fairly quiet life. It may have fallen out of the registry as early as 1973, when the new registration system was introduced. It was re-registered in 2009 and restored in the early nineties. The total mileage shown on the odometer is therefore relatively plausible. The current owner bought the car in 2011 and has essentially only refined it, cared for it, and perhaps driven 5,000 km over 15 years. The most recent and final passed inspection was carried out on July 11, 2018.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

A genuine HF engine from one of the factory cars that raced in Sweden in 1968. One of them crashed and was scrapped, and that engine is now fitted in the auction car. The current owner replaced the connecting rod bearings and tie rod ends in 2020, along with a new exhaust system. A spare muffler is included. Wonderful sound, feel, and an interesting design.

  • Interior condition

A largely untouched and fine interior. The seats are original lightweight HF seats and have not been restored either. A tear in the right seat has been repaired in a suitably neat, competition-use fashion.

  • Exterior condition

The sheet metal work and paint were done by the highly regarded Mellbergs Custom in the early nineties. That work still holds up well, and the car has a fine, handsome presence. The front end with the large headlights comes from the 1.6 model. The quick-fill fuel cap on the left fender is just a cool dummy, applied by a previous owner. The Michelin XAS tires from 2003 have good tread and, above all, look exactly right for the period.

  • General condition

A tastefully executed homage in enticingly fine condition, backed by a high-quality, thorough older restoration from the early nineties.

Facts about the model

The Lancia Fulvia Coupé was originally launched in 1965 at the Geneva Motor Show as an elegant, two-door sports car version of the earlier Berlina sedan. The car's true milestone came in March 1967 when the upgraded version, the Lancia Fulvia Coupé Rallye 1,3, was introduced at the same motor show. It replaced the earlier 1.2-liter variant and was fitted with an all-new V4 engine producing 86 hp. The model stood out technically thanks to its innovative front-wheel drive, dual overhead camshafts, and a very narrow cylinder angle (13 degrees) in the V4 block. The Rallye name was no coincidence either; the car had strong ties to motorsport. It was characterized by lightweight components, with the doors, hood, and trunk lid made of aluminum to keep the weight under one ton. Alongside the standard model, the competition version Rallye 1,3 HF (High Fidelity) was also offered. The 1967 Rallye model laid the foundation for Lancia's future dominance in the world of rallying, and the Fulvia platform won the International Rally Championship in 1972. This first series was produced until 1969, when Fiat took over Lancia and introduced the Serie II. I
