"The Volvo Duett is Sweden's most beloved work vehicle of all time. It was widely used by both government agencies and private companies. The glazed version also served as a family car. The Duett offered here has been carefully restored by an enthusiast who devoted all of his spare time to the restoration over a five-year period. We have not had the opportunity to examine the car in person at the owner's premises, but both the photographs and the people consulted, who have followed the restoration closely, attest that the car has been meticulously prepared to its original appearance. The most recent inspection at the Swedish vehicle inspection authority was carried out on April 17, 2019. Since then, the car has been exempt from inspection under current classic car regulations."

Description

The car was restored between 2017 and 2022. We do not know much about the car's history, but as far back as we have been able to check in the vehicle registry, it has been a Norrland car. According to the vehicle registry, the car has had a total of nine owners from new. In 2012, the car was acquired by the current owner, who in 2017 began a comprehensive restoration of the car. The car was disassembled down to the nut-and-bolt level. The frame was blasted and the body was sanded both inside and out. The frame and body were then primed with epoxy paint. Considerable sums have been spent on sourcing parts such as new fenders, new rubber seals, a new brake system, as well as rebuilding the engine and gearbox, etc. The entire interior has also been replaced with newly manufactured upholstery to original specification. The odometer reads 95,370 km. The odometer does not appear to have moved since the inspection in 2019, so it needs attention. We do not know the car's total mileage from new.
Included with the car is a spare wheel, located in the spare wheel well under the floor. The owner's manual is missing. There are 2 sets of ignition keys for the car.

This is a distance auction. Photos and information about the vehicle and its technical condition have been provided by the owner. BWA has therefore not inspected the car on site at the seller's location.

Facts about the model

The precursor to the development of the Volvo Duett was that customers in need of a more spacious vehicle between 1949 and 1952 could order a so-called delivery chassis from Volvo, of the types PV 445 and P 21114 A. An independent coachbuilder would then construct the body according to the customer's wishes. Several of these body manufacturers actually built models that were quite similar to the body shape Volvo would come to choose for its Duett.
Volvo soon realized that there was a large market for spacious vehicles and figured they might as well build such cars themselves. The answer was the Volvo Duett, launched in the summer of 1953. The name comes from Volvo's idea of the car as both a commercial vehicle and a leisure vehicle. Chassis production continued alongside Duett production on an ongoing basis until 1961.
The Duett came to be developed in parallel with the Volvo PV 444 and Volvo PV 544. The Duett was actually manufactured all the way until 1969, and despite being an outdated model by the late 1960s, it still sold well. The cars designated as 1969 model year were built after the industrial summer holiday of 1968. Only a marginally small number of Duetts were produced in 1969, before production ceased in February of that year.
