Description
Today, the odometer shows just 73,430 km (approx. 45,600 miles). As an engineer and automotive enthusiast, the owner has carried out all routine maintenance himself over the years, though professional workshops have been used on occasion—receipts are available. The car has always been garage-kept during the winter and carefully inspected and prepped before each new season. The soft top has been replaced; otherwise, the car remains in strictly original condition.
Included with the vehicle are original documents and paperwork: the purchase contract from New York, brochures (including both the general Mustang and the ASC McLaren Mustang special edition), the original Swedish registration certificate, and all inspection reports since its arrival in Sweden. Two sets of keys. Inspected and ready to drive. A simple car cover is also included.

Condition
-
Mechanical condition
Starts easily and runs smoothly and quietly in both engine and drivetrain. During a short test drive on a country road, all systems—including steering, clutch, gearbox, handling, and brakes—performed well. A lively and stable car.
It has not been inspected on a lift, but everything visible appeared to be in good condition, with no remarks from inspections. Seems to be free from rust. -
Interior condition
Comfortable and pleasant interior in the original Sand Beige finish. The seats offer excellent comfort, with well-preserved door panels and trim, clean carpets with additional protective mats, and a tidy rear bench with two storage compartments. The steering wheel, controls, dashboard, and gauges are all in nicely preserved condition, with everything in proper working order. Period-correct stereo functions well. All ASC McLaren and special edition emblems are in excellent condition.
-
Exterior condition
Beautiful and glossy original paint in ASC/McLaren Red. Glass, trim, emblems, and lighting details are all in well-preserved original condition. There is a small area of peeling on the trim by the rear bumper. Wheels and tires are in great shape. Both engine bay and trunk are clean and in nice original condition. The soft top is tight, in excellent condition, and has been replaced.
-
General condition
Beyond being a relatively rare special edition, it's fair to say that the history and condition of this car are even more exceptional. A true rarity—now a sought-after classic with collector status.

Facts about the model
Jumping ahead to the third generation, which debuted in 1978, the model became known as the Fox Body. While still compact and influenced by European design, it was larger than the downsized second generation. Engine options ranged from a 2.3-liter inline-four to a 5.0-liter V8 producing 235 hp in the 1993 Cobra. A major facelift came with the 1987 model year, bringing improved quality and performance that boosted the Mustang’s popularity.
Ford also began collaborating with McLaren—first with the M81 McLaren Mustang in the early 1980s, of which only 10 units were produced, and later with the ASC McLaren Mustang, built in 1,806 examples between 1987 and 1991. Standard coupe models were pulled from the line and transformed by American Sunroof Company (ASC) and McLaren.
The transformation included several modifications above the waistline, such as a new window frame and a convertible system inspired by Mercedes, with the soft top folding down under a rear cover—unlike the standard Mustang convertible, reintroduced in 1983, where the top lay on top. The ASC McLaren also featured a unique body kit, upgraded interior, and McLaren-tuned suspension. It was available with both the 5.0L V8 and the 2.3L Turbo engine.
In summary, the ASC McLaren Mustang was a unique, exclusive, and more expensive model compared to the standard Mustang GT—and today, it stands as a desirable collector's item.
