Description
It was delivered to its first owner, senior customs inspector Tegbäck in Solna, in August 1966. Her husband took over the car two years later, and in 1971 it passed to a new owner, also in the Stockholm area. Onward to 1975 and the car's principal owner and user, who drove it during the summers for close to 49 years. There is a short history written on an A4 sheet telling the story of those 49 years, which accompanies the car. The owners after that period are more of the temporary sort. The most recent and final approved inspection was carried out on 2017-07-18

Mechanical condition
Starts easily, feels lively despite its modest power output, and everything else mechanical is in good order. Service and maintenance have been carried out regularly over the years.

Interior condition
Fresh interior; a relative of the first owner felt the safety was insufficient, so they welded on brackets for head restraints and fitted a pair from a Saab Monte Carlo.

Exterior condition
Older paint and body restoration carried out in 1978. The underlying work with spray filler is not a lasting method, and the car today shows traces of the period's bodywork techniques. It is something you can live with, and the car still looks good from a distance.
The soft top has a couple of wear marks but is otherwise fresh with a good fit. The hardtop looks nice, both outside and inside. The whitewalls are of the loose, add-on type. -
General condition
Representative of the model, the only thing that could be perceived as negative are spray filler bubbles and flaking present in a couple of places.

Facts about the model
Renault Caravelle between 1958 and 1968. The idea was born at a North American convention in 1957, where American dealers requested a chic little open car based on the popular but simple people's car Renault Dauphine, in order to attract young buyers and strengthen the brand's presence in the USA. The design commission originally went to the Italian coachbuilding firm Ghia, but was completed by stylist Pietro Frua and resulted in a sleek, modern profile with clean lines, entirely free from the Dauphine's rounded design language. The model was shown for the first time at the Paris Motor Show in October 1958 and was launched in Europe under the name Renault Floride, while on the North American market it was named Caravelle so as not to offend buyers in the American states outside of Florida. It was not until 1962 that all markets were united under the common name Caravelle, at the same time as the car was updated with a new, more powerful 956 cm3 engine and modern disc brakes all around. Technically, the car retained the Dauphine's basic configuration with a rear-mounted engine and rear-wheel drive. It was offered in three body styles: as a pure coupe, as an open convertible (Spider), and as a convertible with an accompanying hardtop. Despite its sporty appearance, the Caravelle was no pure performance car, but rather a cruiser focused on comfort and style – an image strongly reinforced when the French film star Brigitte Bardot was presented as the face of the model. In 1964, the last major mechanical update was launched, the Caravelle 1100 S, with a larger 1.1-liter engine and a Weber carburetor, raising the output to 57 hp. When production finally ceased in the summer of 1968, a total of 117,113 examples had rolled off the line.

- At this auction, many vehicles have been included in car collections and have been stored (mothballed) for a long time. For this reason, they are described from a collector's perspective and may need technical reviews and maintenance service - oil, battery replacement, new tires, brake review, etc. - before they can be used. .
- During the auction days information about a vehicle may be updated up to the day before the auction ends. When you bid at the end of the auction period - and also if you have made an earlier bid - we therefore ask you to read the descriptions carefully, in case something has been changed due to new information.
Important to know before placing your bids!
- Once you have called in an item and the reservation price is reached we want you to deposit the entire purchase amount into our client funds account before retrieval can take place.
- When you need to retrieve a called in object we want you to examine it carefully. If you consider that the item does not match our description you do not need to complete the purchase. In this case the deposited purchase sum and the entry fee are refunded.
- If you do not examine the item on the spot the call charge will be debited, but you do not have to complete the deal.
- If you make the entire purchase exclusively at a distance you have 14 days to cancel, but must return the item at your own expense.
