Its early history has not been established at the time of writing, but information can likely be obtained through the Swedish National Archives. Following the introduction of the newer registration plates, it was re-registered on November 26, 1974. It was last inspected in 2008.
The current owner acquired the vehicle from an estate on October 5, 2019, and drove it briefly. The carburetor was not original, so a correct one was sourced and refurbished. However, the bakelite carburetor spacer was missing, and the car was subsequently left standing.
The vehicle is now being sold “as is.” Useful and practical spare parts are included with the sale (see images). Some older documents and receipts are available.

Not started recently, but it was driven some about seven years ago. Complete, but requires an inspection, installation of certain engine components, and a general check-over after a long period of inactivity.

Original interior with signs of use, but most components appear to be in place as they have been over the years. The partition window and the taximeter are still installed.

Appears to be in complete original condition with signs of use. Glass, trim, emblems, lighting details, and the taxi sign are in good condition. The engine bay and trunk are in good condition overall, though there are some minor rust holes in the trunk. The luggage rack is in good condition.

A classic “barn find” in relatively untouched original condition, which can be driven as-is or restored according to the new owner’s preferences. A PV 831 is not only a part of the Swedish “folkhem” era, but also an important piece of our transport and automotive history.

Fakten zum Modell
The PV 800 model was introduced in 1938, replacing the earlier TR700 series. The designation “Trafikvagn” (commercial vehicle) was replaced with “Personvagn” (passenger car), although it was primarily intended as a taxi and offered more space than its predecessor. Both the chassis and body were completely redesigned and significantly more modern, while the engine remained unchanged. The front design was also used on Volvo’s smallest truck, the LV100 series.
Like its predecessor, the car could be ordered with or without a partition window. The version without a partition could be used as an emergency ambulance by folding down all the seats on the right-hand side and sliding a stretcher in through the luggage compartment.
The nickname “Volvosuggan” (“the Volvo sow”) is said to come from its use as a school transport vehicle, capable of carrying many children—much like a sow with many piglets.
Production slowed during World War II but resumed in 1946. The following year, the model was renamed the PV 820 series, and a year later it was discontinued in favor of the new larger Volvo PV60. However, when the PV60 was quickly phased out and Volvo focused on the smaller 444, there was no large car available for taxi operators in the early 1950s. The solution was to revive the old 800 model. The front end was redesigned, giving it a look similar to the smaller passenger cars. This updated version was named the PV 831 and featured a partition window.
In 1952, a modified grille was introduced, and the following year a special luxury version called “Disponent” was launched, equipped for executives and representative use.
As taxis, these cars were considered virtually impossible to wear out, and some remained in service well into the 1980s.
In addition to the taxi version, the 800 series was also available as a bare chassis for conversions into ambulances, estate vehicles, or small vans.
At the end of 1957, Volvo discontinued the model without presenting a direct successor.

General information about the condition of the vehicles .
- At this auction, many vehicles have been included in car collections and have been stored (mothballed) for a long time. For this reason, they are described from a collector's perspective and may need technical reviews and maintenance service - oil, battery replacement, new tires, brake review, etc. - before they can be used. .
- During the auction days information about a vehicle may be updated up to the day before the auction ends. When you bid at the end of the auction period - and also if you have made an earlier bid - we therefore ask you to read the descriptions carefully, in case something has been changed due to new information.
Important to know before placing your bids!
- Once you have called in an item and the reservation price is reached we want you to deposit the entire purchase amount into our client funds account before retrieval can take place.
- When you need to retrieve a called in object we want you to examine it carefully. If you consider that the item does not match our description you do not need to complete the purchase. In this case the deposited purchase sum and the entry fee are refunded.
- If you do not examine the item on the spot the call charge will be debited, but you do not have to complete the deal.
- If you make the entire purchase exclusively at a distance you have 14 days to cancel, but must return the item at your own expense.
