Before the current owner purchased the car in 1991 directly from Volvo’s employee sales department in Torslanda, it had served both as a demonstration vehicle and as a photo car for Volvo. It is a Volvo GLT equipped with features including an automatic transmission, sunroof, engine heater, and tow hitch.
Over the years, the car has been carefully maintained, with all servicing meticulously documented in the service book. In 2004, the car was taken off the road and thereafter lived a mostly quiet life in the garage, only being registered for use during a few short summer periods in certain years.
In 2011, something occurred that would later raise questions for anyone looking at the mileage reading. At approximately 138,660 km, the speedometer and trip meter stopped functioning. The instrument cluster was then replaced with a used unit that had already covered significantly more distance — approximately 300,000 km more. The replacement was carefully documented by the workshop and can also be traced through the Swedish Transport Agency’s records, where the sudden mileage increase is clearly visible despite the car having been off the road for most of that period.
Even during its quieter years, the Volvo continued to receive proper care. Most recently, in June 2025, it was serviced with, among other things, a new timing belt and new tires. A few days later, it passed inspection with no remarks whatsoever. After another summer on the road, it then returned to its place in the garage for winter storage.
Included with the car are also four extra wheels fitted with older winter tires, along with two sets of keys.

The engine and drivetrain perform well. All auxiliary systems and equipment function as they should. The brakes operate evenly and effectively. Overall condition is very good.

Zustand Interieur
The interior is in good used condition. There are signs of normal wear and a few stains on the door panels — please refer to the photos. The headliner, floor mats, and dashboard are all in fine condition.

The paintwork is in good condition, and the car has been partially repainted at some point. The Volvo has also been rustproofed in the past and has held up well against corrosion, although there is a small area of rust on the lower front corner seam of the driver’s door — see photo. The body has a few minor dents on the front fenders, also shown in the photos. The sunroof is manually operated and functions as it should. The underside appears to be in good condition.

From 1983, Volvo decided to phase out the old model designations 242, 244, and 245 — from then on, all variants were simply called the 240. For the 1984 model year, all fuel-injected versions — including the GLT, GLE, and Turbo — received a new front design with a raised hood and black grille. At the same time, side marker lights on the front fenders became standard across the range.
For 1985, all models received redesigned engines with reduced internal friction. The lower friction improved fuel economy and cold-start performance. These engines featured a new cast-iron block and an aluminum cylinder head.
The Volvo 240, which had its roots in the earlier 140 series, was introduced in 1974. Over the years, it underwent several updates, and when its successor, the 740, was launched in 1984, many assumed the 240 would soon disappear. However, production continued all the way until 1993.
In the beginning, petrol-powered models were equipped either with the older B20 engine or the newer B21. Later, the range consisted of the B19, B21, or B23 engines (up until 1984), after which only the larger engine remained, now renamed the B230.
The manual gearboxes in the first production year were the M40 (4-speed) and M41 (4-speed with overdrive), but these were replaced by the M45 and M46 the following year. From the 1983 model year onward, the M47 (5-speed) was also introduced for the GL models.
Automatic transmission was available as an option. In the 1975 and 1976 models, this was the 3-speed Borg-Warner BW35, which in 1977 was replaced by the Borg-Warner BW55, also a 3-speed automatic. From the 1980 model year, a more modern 4-speed Aisin-Warner AW71 transmission was introduced for the GLE and GLT, and the following year also for the Turbo models. From the 1985 model year onward, it became standard across the entire model range.

General information about the condition of the vehicles .
- At this auction, many vehicles have been included in car collections and have been stored (mothballed) for a long time. For this reason, they are described from a collector's perspective and may need technical reviews and maintenance service - oil, battery replacement, new tires, brake review, etc. - before they can be used. .
- During the auction days information about a vehicle may be updated up to the day before the auction ends. When you bid at the end of the auction period - and also if you have made an earlier bid - we therefore ask you to read the descriptions carefully, in case something has been changed due to new information.
Important to know before placing your bids!
- Once you have called in an item and the reservation price is reached we want you to deposit the entire purchase amount into our client funds account before retrieval can take place.
- When you need to retrieve a called in object we want you to examine it carefully. If you consider that the item does not match our description you do not need to complete the purchase. In this case the deposited purchase sum and the entry fee are refunded.
- If you do not examine the item on the spot the call charge will be debited, but you do not have to complete the deal.
- If you make the entire purchase exclusively at a distance you have 14 days to cancel, but must return the item at your own expense.
