Beschreibung
It was repainted red during the 1980s while owned by a man with ambitions of using it for circuit racing. At that point, the car was equipped with twin Weber carburetors and probably also received its leather seats. However, it never became a racing car, and when the next owner purchased it in 1990, considerable effort was put into correcting non-original details. Extensive documentation from the 1980s and 1990s accompanies the car, including receipts, invoices, and other records — much of it from well-known specialists such as Sportvagnsservice on Lidingö and Alfa Rosso in Gothenburg. Parts were also sourced from the USA, Germany, and Italy. During these years, the car was used very sparingly and was mostly kept indoors.
The current owner acquired the car in 2015 and continued refining it further. The car received new paint inside and out, chassis components were refreshed, the openings for the US side marker lights were filled in, and the correct headlamp covers were installed. Since then, it has been used even more sparingly and stored in a heated garage.
The odometer currently shows just over 30,000 kilometers, but according to discussions with previous owners, the true mileage is more likely around 130,000 kilometers — which, considering the car’s 55-year history, should still be regarded as modest.
Teknische Daten
Beurteilung Fahrzeugzustand
-
Zustand technisch
Mechanically, the car is in very fine condition, and everything feels properly sorted. The gauges and controls are all functioning as they should. On the road, the car feels composed, well-balanced, and responsive, while the engine pulls strongly throughout the rev range. Slightly wider wheels and tires contribute greatly to the car’s stability.
The engine has received some tasteful upgrades and is said to produce just over 140 horsepower, something that is clearly noticeable in the way the car performs. It has been fitted with electronic ignition and an electric fuel pump, along with a chrome-plated extractor exhaust manifold from Alfa Ricambi in California.
The chassis feels well set up and gives a fresh, confidence-inspiring impression. One can easily imagine that this is very much how it felt to drive a brand-new Alfa Spider back in 1971. -
Zustand Interieur
The interior is of a very high standard, with fine door panels and very few flaws overall. The leather is wonderfully soft, and the seats remain comfortable. The passenger seat has a small repair that has been professionally carried out and is barely noticeable. There are also a few minor repairs to the dashboard.
An aftermarket radio/cassette player with speakers has been installed, branded Knutsson — a highly regarded name in its day that still delivers good sound quality today. (The Knutsson brand ceased to exist in 1980.)
The trunk is also presented to a high standard, featuring an intact rubber mat on the floor and very clean, well-preserved details throughout. There are, however, some small cracks in the rubber near the loading sill. -
Zustand Exterieur
The car originally featured American-style side marker lights, but these were carefully removed and the openings filled during a sympathetic restoration. At the same time, the car was repainted both inside and out. This work was carried out by NEVS in Trollhättan, and the paintwork is finished to a very high standard — as are the wheels, hubcaps, and other details.
The underside is presented to the same high level. The inner wheel housings and wheel arches are exceptionally fine and largely untouched, with only one small older repair, roughly the size of a coin, visible in one wheel well. Earlier repairs around the seat mountings were carried out at some point during the 1990s, and the floor drainage holes were also filled in during that period.
The soft top was replaced two years ago and remains in excellent condition, as does the matching top cover. The glass, rubber seals, and related trim are all in very fine shape. The rear bumper shows traces of an older damage repair, and there is a slight patina on a few details, though it is barely noticeable. -
Zustand gesamt
A truly fine car with an almost entirely Swedish history, having gone through several transformations over the years. Through a succession of enthusiastic owners, it has gradually been restored and carefully returned to a more European appearance, resulting in a car that today presents itself in both charming and exquisite condition.
