"Britain's answer to Germany's Volkswagen Beetle."

Beschreibung

This Morris Minor is a fine example of a classic British family car that has received the care and attention it deserves over the years. Under the previous owner's stewardship, the car underwent an extensive restoration, with considerable attention given to both the bodywork and the mechanical components to ensure many miles of reliable motoring. The result is a well-maintained and attractive example.

The drivetrain also received a comprehensive overhaul. The engine was rebuilt with new main bearings, connecting rod bearings, and piston rings, while several key components were replaced, including a new water pump, a new fuel pump, and numerous smaller parts to ensure dependable operation and reliability.

The braking system has been maintained on an ongoing basis. The previous owner replaced the rear brake shoes, while the current owner continued the work by fitting new front brake shoes and new front wheel cylinders. As a result, the car feels reassuring and performs well on the road.

Since acquiring the car, the current owner has used it only sparingly and has always stored it carefully in a garage. Thanks to the extensive restoration and limited use, the Morris Minor remains a well-preserved and charming classic, ready to provide its next owner with many enjoyable journeys to and from classic car meets and events.

The sale includes a folder containing photographs documenting the restoration, together with additional documentation relating to the car.

Beurteilung Fahrzeugzustand

  • Zustand technisch

The car starts easily and the engine and drivetrain perform well. It is easy to drive, and the gearbox engages each gear positively. The brakes operate evenly and provide good stopping performance. The semaphore turn indicators are currently not functioning. The tyres are old and show age-related cracking; please refer to the photographs for details.

  • Zustand Interieur

The interior is in honest, well-used condition, showing the expected signs of age and use—please refer to the photographs—but nothing out of the ordinary for a car of this age. The front seats require new seat webbing, as the existing straps have dried out and lost their elasticity (see photos). The dashboard and headlining are both in very good condition.

  • Zustand Exterieur

The paintwork has a good shine, although there are some dust inclusions and small paint blisters, as shown in the photographs. Overall, and viewed from a normal distance, the paint presents well. The chrome trim shows signs of age and wear, with some pitting and cracking—please refer to the photographs. The underside is in typical condition for a 1950s Morris and is generally sound. The window rubber seals show age-related cracking; please see the photographs for details.

  • Zustand gesamt

A charming classic with an appealing overall presentation, full of character and in a well-maintained, user-friendly condition.

Fakten zum Modell

The Morris Minor was first introduced in 1948, initially featuring a side-valve engine and a split windscreen. Early cars were distinguished by their lower-mounted headlights, giving them a noticeably different appearance from later models. At launch, the Minor was available only as a two-door saloon and a convertible, with the four-door saloon joining the range in 1950.

The car was designed by Alec Issigonis, the engineering genius who would later become famous for creating the iconic Mini. He began work on Morris's new small car during the Second World War. His original vision included front-wheel drive and a flat-four (boxer) engine, but Morris's conservative management rejected those ideas. Instead, the Minor inherited the drivetrain from the Morris Eight, powered by a 918 cc inline four-cylinder engine. However, Issigonis successfully introduced several advanced engineering features, including a monocoque body, rack-and-pinion steering, and independent front suspension.

In 1952, the updated Series II was introduced with a modern 803 cc overhead-valve engine shared with the Austin A30. The practical Traveller estate joined the range in 1953, followed by a redesigned grille and dashboard in 1954. Over the following years, the Minor received a number of further updates, including larger engines and various improvements.

Production of the Morris Minor continued until 1971, making it one of Britain's most enduring and beloved classic family cars.
