There is an international auction scene where classic cars are sold at prices that reach almost unimaginable levels.

The latest example is a 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California Spider, which this past weekend was sold for 180 million SEK.

The hammer fell in Monaco, where RM Sotheby’s held one of its prestigious auctions. The car was number 26 of 56 short-wheelbase 250 GT Spider models ever produced and had recently undergone a three-year restoration.

It began its life as a show car at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1961, where it was presented in white with black leather. Over the years, it has been repainted three times and now appears in its fourth color: blue with red leather — very elegant.

This is interesting given the importance usually placed on absolute originality when it comes to super-classics of this kind. How high would the price have been if it had retained its original specification?

In any case, it is without a doubt a car to dream about — enjoy the photos and video here: https://rmsothebys.com/auctions/mc26/lots/r0015-1961-ferrari-250-gt-swb-california-spider-by-scaglietti/
