Art Deco with 12 cylinders - Bilweb Auctions sparks international interest with a rare Lincoln-Zephyr

One of the great icons in automotive, a 1938 Lincoln-Zephyr Convertible Coupe, is the star of the auction line-up on Bilweb Auctions October Auction 2021

-    This is a car that creates interest all over the world. We´ll see if it stays in Sweden, says Michael Luft at Bilweb Auctions.

A Lincoln-Zephyr Convertible Coupe is a piece of art in Art Deco style, in the Streamline design that became popular in the 1930s in the USA. Not only cars were to be streamlined, also boats, trains, buildings and household goods got the sweeping lines. But for Lincoln it was not enough with a design that left the customers breathless, also the engine had to be something extra: 12 cylinders in a V-shape. Despite the number of cylinders, the engine was somewhat small, 4.4 litres, developing 110 hp.

This particular car was sold new in Stockholm, Sweden, in 1938, one of only 200 made this first year for the Convertible Coupe. It was ordered with options as a Philco radio and a Hot Air Heater - after all, it was cold Sweden…

The father of the present owner carried out a restoration that was ready in 1996. Since then, only 40 000 km has been put on the clock, and the car is still in an amazing condition. When the US Lincoln-Zephyr Owners Club organized its Millennium meeting in 2000, the owner got a special invitation. The car was shipped to the US and then driven 1500 km to the meeting in St Paul. It was assessed by extremely tough judges and given 93 point out of 100. Minus points caused by an engine not clean enough and dirt in tire patterns, due to the 1500 km drive to the meeting. The other cars came on trailers.

Approximately 600 Lincoln-Zephyr Convertible Coupes was made during 1938 and 1939. About 10 cars is believed to remain, meaning it is an extremely rare car being presented by Bilweb Auctions.

-    One of the most exciting cars we’ve had the privilege to put on auction, says Michael Luft.
