A mercilessly tough 1964 Ford Falcon Futura Sprint is one of the top adrenalin generating objects on Bilweb Auction´s second listing in March. It is approved by FIA for international historic rallyes, track races and hill climbs.
This Falcon rolled out from the Ford plant in Claycomo, Missouri in 1964. The ”Sprint” denomination meant it had the 289 cui V8, a stiffer suspension and a sports exhaust system. Falcon was the compact offer from Ford in the early Sixties och provided the base for the Mustang.
The car in the auction was imported to Sweden in 2008 and was rebuilt according to FIA´s ”Appendix K” regulations in 2021. It participated in the Rally of the Midnight Sun in Sweden in 2022. The engine is fully rebuilt with an estimated power output of 300 horse power and a detailed description of the tuning comes with the car.
The result is a magnificent race car with an unsurpassed presence on narrow gravel roads. It is also street legal for those who want to own the McDonald´s parking lot or the local Cars & Coffee.
The Ford Falcon Futura Sprint has an interesting rally history. Ford built 8 works cars for the 1964 Monte Carlo rally and one of these was driven by the legendary Swedish driver Bosse Ljungfeldt. He drove the mighty Falcon on the serpentine roads of southern France in a way that nobody thought was possible and won all of the six special stages.
Ljungfeldt and his Falcon finished second which was a sensation in the rally world. The fact was that he would have won if there wouldn’t have been a handicap system that favoured less powerful cars like Paddy Hopkirk´s Mini Cooper S, who won the ´64 Monte.
The future owner of this Falcon can therefore become a part of a proud Swedish-American rally heritage.
The auction closes on 16 Marsch and Bilweb Auctions has estimated the value of the car to between 330 000 and 360 000 SEK.
