Saab 9-5 NG with Chassis Number 5 – One of a Kind

Bilweb Auctions’ love story with unique Saabs continues. No other auction house has been able to offer such a wide selection of classics from Trollhättan.

Saab 9-5 NG with Chassis Number 5 – One of a Kind

We are now offering a Saab 9-5 XWD with chassis number 5, built in the legendary experimental workshop “Frickeboa.”

We are talking about the 9-5 NG — short for New Generation — which was launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2009. During the autumn, a small number of cars were built, just 10 in total, more or less by hand and for testing purposes.

Only one of them received the drivetrain combination of a 195 hp 4-cylinder diesel engine, automatic transmission, and all-wheel drive: our auction car. This was a drivetrain that never entered series production.

Chassis number 5 was used for public road testing and was later deregistered. When Saab went bankrupt in 2011, it became part of the bankruptcy estate and was sold to a company specializing in skid-control driving courses. However, it was never used for that purpose, as the all-wheel drive system made it unsuitable.

After two additional owners, this extremely rare Saab 9-5 is now back on the market via Bilweb Auctions. With only 28,350 km on the odometer, it is in excellent condition, both inside and out. However, it is not registered in Sweden and currently needs to be registered in another EU country in order to be driven legally on public roads.

Nevertheless, it represents an important part of Saab’s history and should be highly sought after by Saab collectors around the world.

The auction ends on February 18, and the market value has been estimated by Bilweb Auctions at between SEK 250,000 and 300,000.
