Volvo 2.5 SE – Just 260 km since 1995!

There are plenty of cars that cover 260 km every day. This Volvo 850 has driven the same distance since it was new in 1995. Could this be the world’s lowest-mileage 850 up for sale?

There are plenty of cars that cover 260 km every day.
This Volvo 850 has driven the exact same distance since it was new in 1995.
Could it be the world’s lowest-mileage 850 now up for sale?

Collector cars with extremely low mileage surface every now and then. Sometimes it’s unsold stock that ended up in a corner, or cars whose owners became ill or, for other reasons, never wanted or were able to use them.

In the case of this Volvo 850 2.5 SE, we travel back to 1995 and to Sölvesborg in Blekinge. Mr. Johansson bought himself a brand-new Volvo. He chose the hugely successful 850, launched three years earlier and quickly regarded as one of the world’s best cars in its segment.

Mr. Johansson is said to have been fairly well-off financially – but he certainly didn’t want to show it or boast about it. Perhaps that made him feel a little uncomfortable with his new 850?

And when an acquaintance remarked, “Ah, so you’ve bought a new car,” he suddenly denied it and instead claimed it was a lottery prize. At that point, the car had covered just 260 km.

Embarrassed by his lie, he chose to put the car away and never drive it again. For 24 years, until his passing, it stood untouched. It didn’t even make it to its first service.

After two short-term owners, who also didn’t use the car, it is now for sale at Bilweb Auctions. For safety’s sake, it has been fitted with a new timing belt, water pump, and fuel pump. A few minor imperfections have appeared over the years, such as clear coat peeling on the hood, roof, and tailgate, but underneath, the paint remains in excellent condition.

A car like this is a kind of historical time capsule: this is exactly what a Volvo 850 looked like when it rolled out of the factory.
For a new owner, however, the classic dilemma arises: should I drive it – or not?

Bilweb Auctions has valued this unique Volvo at between SEK 140,000 and 180,000. The auction ends on September 11.
