Lamborghini Espada - Italian supercar at Bilweb Auctions

What do Paul McCartney and Carl-Gustaf Lindstedt have in common?

Very little—except that they both owned a Lamborghini Espada.

For the first time, Bilweb Auctions now has a low-mileage example of this Italian icon for sale.

Actor and comedian Lindstedt was an unexpected owner of a white 1972 Espada, repainted from brown. The Beatle Paul went for a new Espada of the same year in the color Champagne, which he immediately repainted red…

The auction car is said to have the same dark red color as when it was delivered to its first owner in October 1970, not far from the factory outside Bologna. Three Italian owners drove it just over 50,000 kilometers until 1976 when a Swede took it over from Baroness Longo in Rome and brought it home to Sollentuna.

Extensive documentation with a wealth of Italian stamps adds an exciting cultural provenance to the car.

But for unknown reasons, the Espada was only driven for four years and 14,000 kilometers before being stored away in 1980. Now, it’s finally coming out into the light again.

A long period of storage is often unkind to cars, and many might see it as a restoration project. Others see a car that just needs a thorough overhaul of its 3.9-liter V12 engine, a cleaning and repair of the interior, and brake refurbishment to get it back on the road again.

The six twin-barrel Weber carburetors and the exceptionally beautiful Campagnolo wheels in knock-off style haven’t seen much use, as these were bought new a year before the car was stored due to theft.

The Lamborghini Espada is a child of the late '60s, launched at the Geneva Motor Show in 1968. The striking design of this magnificent 4-seater Grand Tourer was by Bertone.

By 1970, the Series 2—which the auction car belongs to—was released, followed by the Series 3 in 1972. Production ended in 1978 after 1,227 units were made. Mass production by Lamborghini standards…

Those who want to join the exclusive club with Carl-Gustaf Lindstedt and Paul McCartney as members can place their bids until October 3, when the auction ends.

Bilweb Auctions has estimated the value at between 550,000 and 600,000 SEK.
