Anna-Lisa´s Beetle convertible from 1953 - an irresistible bonbon on wheels

Ms Anna-Lisa Kvist in Malmo, Sweden, was most definitely not a modest person. When she, in October 1953, bought her new Volkswagen, it generated quite some attention: a two-tone convertible in burgundy and beige, very unusual on Swedish roads at the time.

Today, 70 years later, it´s still completely irresistible. Even people who normally doesn’t care too much about cars, gets a warm feeling inside when looking at this sweet thing on wheels.

In addition, model year 1953 of the convertible is a rare one, making it very sought after among Volkswagen enthusiasts. The exact number of cars that is still on the roads today, is uncertain, but it is definitely way below 100.

Volkswagen had produced its ”Type 1” Beetle convertible since 1949, in the Karmann factory in Osnabruck. The engine volume was 1131 cc, developing 25 horsepower, and the 3-speed manual was synchronized on first gear only.

Anna-Lisa´s car went through a restoration in the 1970:s with a new paint on 1977. Since then it has been well taken care of by enthusiasts and an exchange engine - built upon an engine block from 1953 - was installed in 1999.

The car is very well kept, interior and exterior. An original Blaupunkt ”Hamburg de Luxe” is mounted in the dashboard and the extremely rare ”Moto-Meter” combi instrument resides where the speaker normally is placed. A clock, a fuel gauge and an oil temperature meter give the driver additional information.

Here is some more extra equipment on the car:

-    two-point mounted antenna
-    fog light
-    Bosch high tone horn
-    flower vase in Rosenthal porcelain
-    original tool kit

This Beetle convertible is on Bilweb Auction´s May auction # 2, and is expected to attract bidders from all over Europe.
