A Dream-Saab on auction

"Dream-Saab" going under the hammered.

The Saab 96 Sport "Flat nose" is a collector's dream car, and this 1964 sport is now up for auction. It is in a superbly restored original condition and design, precisely how it looked new in the showroom about 60 years ago.

This Saab has been renovated to a magnificent original design by a person with extensive experience and meticulous attention to details. The end result is just spectacular and I have never seen anything like it, says Michael Luft at Bilweb Auctions

For many, the ideal "old Saab" is a 1964 Saab Sport. The Sport-modell included a carburettor for each cylinder, disc brakes, independent fuel system (you did not have to mix oil in the gasoline), extra lights, a customized interior and sports steering wheel.

With front-wheel drive, outstanding chassis qualities, responsive steering and Saab's two-stroke provided a unique driving experience. Sixtens Sason's own design, combined with the aerospace history of a low centre of gravity and a flat floor, resulted in a car that was both attractive and ingenious, according to Michael Luft.

In 1962, the Saab 96 Sport was unveiled at the Stockholm Motor Show. The last model year with what is now known as the flat nose front was 1964. The sport was then superseded by the Monte Carlo "long-nose variation."
