Pair of eights - elegant Buicks from the 1940s on Bilweb Auctions

Two elegant Buicks from the 1940s are presently for sale on Bilweb Auctions, both with the famous straight eight.

The first one is from 1941, when car production in the USA was still at full speed since the country hadn’t entered the WWII. It is a Buick Sedan Special, the entry model in Buick’s line of full-size cars. It was restored in the USA for about 30 years ago and has kept its wonderful condition through the years. Imported to Sweden in 1997 and has been a part of a museum collection for the last five years.

This model year had the 4.1 litre straight eight, developing 117 horse power and it is in the auction car mated to a manual three-speed gearbox. In the Special, Buick prioritized passenger comfort before performance, which is confirmed by the supple and quite ride. The green metallic paint - very modern in the 1940s - is close to perfect and is accompanied by  seat upholstery in green, thick plush in as-new condition.

The car is valued at between 225 000 and 245 000 SEK.

When WWII had come to an end, it took a few years until Buick could present a new design. However, in 1949 it was time for a comprehensive restyling and the second Buick in the Bilweb Auction listing is from this year.

It is a Roadmaster, Buick’s flagship sin the 1930s, and now the engine volume has increased to 5.2 litres and the horse power figure to 150. In the brochures, Buick´s market department described the much larger curved, two-piece, windshield  as an ”observation car”.

Now it was also time for another Buick characteristic: the four port holes on each front fender, named ”VentiPorts”.

The auction car has been professionally repainted and given an exclusive upholstery with silver threads woven into the fabric - very elegant.

The 1949 Roadmaster is a part of the same collection as its older sibling from 1941.
Bilweb Auctions has estimated the market value of the car to between 220 000 and 240 000 SEK.
