The Eighties are back, big time. Surviving customized cars are admired in the car shows and an younger generation discovers a Swedish cultural heritage.

And a legendary Audi Quattro is for sale at Bilweb Auctions: Sven-Erik ”Svempa” Bergendahls Urquattro from 1986. It had just 140 kilometers on the clock when it was subject to a customization typical for the 1980s.

The men behind the project was Svempa and his designer Jan Richer, a duo that styled 100s of Scania trucks worldwide and whose brand ”Svempas” recently was bought by Scania. It was considered a bold move to put the angle grinder into a new Audi Quattro, a car more expensive than a Porsche 911 and only made in 774 examples this year, 1986.

The result was a radical restyling true to the prevailing ideals of the 1980s, with dramatically wider fenders and doors and a prominent spoiler on top of the boot lid. Everything was made in sheet metal with all the welding seams covered by lead filler - a professional job. The outcome was a Quattro 8 cm lower and 30 cm wider that the original, with Pirelli Cinturato P7s on 15 inch split rims, 285/40 in the rear, 225/50 in the front.

The car became a sensation and a dream for many Audi Quattro fans. However, after a few owners down the road, the car deteriorated but was rescued by an enthusiast who had been fascinated by this Quattro when it was new. He decided to bring it back to its old glory, including the special green metallic paint. The restoration was finished in 2020 and apart from a few minor details, Svempa´s Quattro is back in its 80s outfit - a symbol for an era.

And now there is an opportunity to make a 4WD time journey 45 years back in time in an unique car.
Bilweb Auctions has estimated the value to between 550 000 and 600 000 SEK. The auction ends on 27 April.
