1970 was a special year for young bike enthusiasts in Sweden. The regulations for light motorcycles - with an age limit of 16 - changed. What previously was a maximum weight of 75 kilos - regardless of engine size - now changed to 125 cc. Suddenly a number of advances small bikes became available: Honda CB125, Suzuki T-125, Moto Guzzi Stornello.
And Zündapp KS125 - even if it basically was a KS100 with a bigger cylinder.
Zündapp mopeds had become increasingly desirable during the 1960s on the Swedish market. The superb quality, the perfection in all details, the sporty design with a real motorcycle look.
The KS125 was primarily a moped design, but with a much more powerful engine - 15 horse power - mounted in the frame made of pressed light metal.
The KS125 now for sale at Bilweb Auctions has been subject to a full restoration by one of Sweden’s most skilled Zündapp restorers. It has covered only 1200 kilometers after the restoration and spent most of its time in the owners living room.
Every detail is in as-new condition, as well as all chrome work and the paint in Brilliant blue. Both the cylinder and the Spanish fan-shaped head are NOS - New Old Stock. The icing on the cake is a ”Jetpipe” muffler, a sought after accessory at the time.
Prices on Zündapp´s mopeds and light motorcycles has gone through the roof the last 5-10 years, in Sweden and Germany as well as in many other European countries. The number of devoted Zündapp enthusiasts are increasing and a good supply of spare parts facilitates high class restorations.
This KS125 is one of the finest in Sweden and the bids have already reached 210 000 SEK. The auction closes on 2 March.
