No car has played a more important role in the automotive history than Ford Model T. Now there is a beautifully restored early ”T” from 1912 for sale at Bilweb Auctions, together with another four classic Fords from the 1920s, 30s and 40s.
1912: Titanic goes down after hitting an iceberg and Stockholm hosts the Olympics in its newly built stadium. World War I is only two years away. And a Ford Model T, a fairly new car model at the time is delivered in Sweden, possibly built in the recently opened factory in Trafford Park, England.
112 years later it is in a wonderful condition and ready for new adventures out on the roads. It has been a part of a private collection and museum in the south of Sweden. You can spend a long time admiring all the beautiful details on this Model T: all the brass details, from the acetylen headlights to the long sleek horn. The narrow artillery wheels. The leather straps securing the soft top, the plush seats.
Under the hood resides the durable inline four of 2.9 liters and 20 horse power that runs not only on petrol, but also on kerosene and ethanol, if needed. This engine remained in production long after the Model T was discontinued, up until 1941.
The T was launched in 1908 in Detroit and 15 million car were made until 1927. Out of these approximately 50 000 found its way to Sweden. Only the Volkswagen Beetle has been produced in higher numbers. It was for the purpose of building the Model T Henry Ford created the moving assembly line in 1914, a production method the revolutionized the automotive industry.
Yet another four classic Fords from the private collection is part of the first listing from Bilweb Auctions in March:
- 1926 Model T Touring. A late T, very presentable with a user friendly patina. Estimated at between 100 000 and 130 000 SEK.
- 1931 Model A Coupe. Older restoration in great condition. Estimated at 150 000 to 170 000 SEK.
- 1935 V8 sedan. Beautiful pre-war Ford with the revolutionary side valve V8. 170 000 to 200 000 SEK.
- 1947 Super DeLuxe Tudor Coupe. A 2-door from the time when USA and the rest of the world started to recover after WWII. Estimated at between 180 000 and 220 000 SEK.
