Three ”R Volvos” in the same car auction is something that never have happened before. But on 19 May it does - and they are all estates: two yellow T-5R and one red 850 R.
The intense Cream Yellow became a signature for Volvo´s new performance model was presented at the Geneva motor show in 1994. A few other colors were added a bit later, olive green and black.
The 850 T-5R was part of the marketing drive to give the Volvo brand a sportier edge. Another was to race in the British Touring Car Championship with two 850 estates, Rickard Rydell and Jan Lammers being the drivers.
The T-5R:s sold like hot cakes. And already the year after, at the Frankfurt show in September 1995, the successor was launched: the 850 R. A redesigned spoiler package, new wheels in graphite grey and a striking new red colour.
When 850 transformed into S70 and V70, R-versions was again a part of the line-up, now with all wheel drive available and Saffron as the eye-catching color.
The three R Volvos on the upcoming auction list of Bilweb Auctions comes from the same collecting owner. They have a lot in common: they are estates, fairly high milage but with a thorough service history. They are also untouched and in an original state.
One of the two yellow T-5R:s has a manual gearbox, which makes it even more unusual. The combination yellow/manual/estate was made in only 526 examples. It has 180 000 kilometers on the clock and the service records shows an existence alternately on the French Riviera and in Gothenburg, Sweden. During the last 16 years the car has only covered 17 000 kilometers.
The value is estimated to between 160 000 and 200 000 SEK.

The second T-5R has 265 000 kilometers on the clock, but with a complete service record. The more common automatic transmission makes it one of 894 yellow estates.

Both these cars are model year 1995.
Their younger brother in red, the 850 R, is a ´96 and shows 240 000 well serviced kilometers on the clock. It has an automatic gearbox and has been driven only 21 000 kilometers during the last 14 years. The dashboard has inlays in the characteristic light birch, unique for the 850 R and in the trunk an original Volvo CD changer for 6 discs is mounted.
